Re: Will we have a new slam winner in 2014?

I think Aga can win Wimbledon.

We'll have to see how Sabine does in the first week. If she can even get to the second week with all the pressure.

Victoria Azarenka.
Serena Williams. Maria Sharapova.

Wozniacki. Stosur. Jankovic. Bouchard. Halep. Muguruza.
Venus. Stephens. Cornet. Hampton. Bencic.
Seles. Henin. Davenport. Hingis. Clijsters.

Totally agree. A real mess. The worst slam I've seen in years.

Re: Will we have a new slam winner in 2014?

How many grand slam champions are in the draw? 10 (Serena, Azarenka, Sharapova, Li, Kvitova, Stosur, Ivanovic, Kuznetsova, Venus and Schiavone). Have I missed any?

I think no anyway.

Yes, someone random at RG 2014 (e.g. Halep, Hercog, Stephens) or Errani

Is the carpet comfortable?

Its about Serena and Azarenka dominating.
If Li Na and Sharapova play their GOAT tennis, they can still win one
Na in AO, Pova in FO
Pretty much this. Although it will be interesting to see whether Stephens can take another step. She is not that far away. If that Wimbledon happened 12 months/24 months later I think Stephens wins the title instead of Bartoli. She almost did it this year, but she wasn´t ready yet for a veteran like Bartoli putting up a totally different intensity level than her.

- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a reigning world #1.
- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a top 5 player at a major.
- Caroline Wozniacki has not beaten a top 3 player en route to any of her 23 titles.
- Caroline Wozniacki has beaten two top 5 players en route to her 23 titles (#4 Zvonareva and #5 Schiavone)

-Her fans think she had very bad luck with her Grand Slam and Regular Tour draws.

Re: Will we have a new slam winner in 2014?

so basically you're postulating whether or not the future version of the apparently "future great" stephens would be able to take advantage of the most historically weak and depleted slam of the open era. how pathetic

how about we wonder if she can just win a regular slam, and not rely on ridiculously depleted fields that are (hopefully) a rarity??

I think most people think Lisicki will win a Grand Slam...unfortunately people are posting who they want to see win based on who they think will win matches because people are just haters of Lisicki.

Re: Will we have a new slam winner in 2014?

Hopefully Serena can win the FO once more to hold off the continuing splurge of random winners and hopefully she wins Wimbledon too so the same doesn't start to happen there, although Radwanska or Azarenka would be worthy Wimbledon champions too.

Sabine is a good player on grass, but how do you figure she's the best active grass player?

According to what? I highly doubt Lisicki is a favourite to win a grand slam in her career. The problem is she's only a contender at 1 grand slam per year. And then when the mental battle at a grand slam begins in the latter rounds she's unproven. You could say getting to the Wimbledon final shows she can do it, but on the other hand her performance in that Wimbledon final leaves at least a few doubts. That maybe her best chance too, how many chances is Lisicki likely to get to start as a favourite in a grand slam final? Not many.

No. Not the first such prediction one can uncover in this forum. Not even close. In case you missed it, prior to this thread we had a similar type of thread gracing this message board which requested posters to predict the winners of all four slams next year. In it there was a plethora of posters predicting Serena to win all four. One poster went so far as to assert that it was a 70% probability that Serena will win all four. I found such a figure dubious and that poster did not reveal how he(she) arrived at that high probability figure.
