***2014 New WTA ranking point distribution***

The WTA Board of Directors has approved an adjustment to the current WTA Ranking Point Distribution. The new ranking points will be introduced over a 12-month period from the start of the 2014 season.

The changes to the current ranking rules are:

- At both WTA and ITF level, the round to round distribution has been standardized

- Players are better rewarded for winning and going deep in tournaments

- First round points at Mandatory tournaments have been doubled

- Qualifying points at Internationals have been enhanced

- Grand Slam qualifying points have been adjusted to lessen the difference with WTA Premier events qualifying points, which have similarly-ranked qualifying draws

*New points will be added only as 2013 results drop off so change will be gradual.

Elements for Change

1. Grand Slam QLF reduced from 60/50/40/2 to 40/30/20/2

2. QLF Pts: GS - 40, PM - 30, P5 - 30, Premier - 25, International - 18

3. GS/WTA Round to Round Distribution: 65/60/55/55/55/55

4. WTA 125K and ITF Round to Round Distribution: 60/60/50/50/50

5. 1st Round Grand Slam and Premier Mandatory = 10 vs 5 / 1st Round Premier Mandatory Qualifying 2 vs 1

6. WTA Qualifier receives 45-50% at Premiers, 57% at Grand Slams, and 60% at Internationals of 1st Round Main Draw Win

7. ITF New 25+H Level with 60 pts to Winner…… ITF 15K receives 5 more points to distance from 10K
ITF 75K, 5 more points to winner. ITF 50+H, and 50K, 10 more points to winner.

Re: ***2014 New WTA ranking point distribution***

This is a bad for anyone with lots of points to defend early in the season, and good for those that post a lot of points at the end
of the season.

Don't really have an opinion on the change of distribution. Doesn't really both me either way. The Q stuff looks good.

Finally! Though now the points are a bit harder to remember... I guess I'll get used to it.

Q change is the best. as of now you get 2 points for Q1 and 40 points for Q2 at a slam

Totally disagree. Old system rewarded consistency. This system rewards getting hot for one or two tournaments. The result of this system is that players will end up getting overranked as the result of either A) a fluke tournament or B) by playing lots of ITF tournaments.

Take a look at the ATP rankings and notice how many players are able to get into the top 100 just by winning matches on the Challenger tour.

This forum goes on and on about "vulturing". Well with this new ranking distribution, "vulturing" will be that much more viable. This new point distribution will reward players who regularly go deep in ITF events and Internationals rather than players who consistently win one or two matches in Premiers, Premier 5s and Premier Mandatories.

These changes get a big big from me.

Re: ***2014 New WTA ranking point distribution***

going ATP's way where winning in early rounds doesn't help you so much

i never understood why you should get anything but 1 point if losing in first round of a slam or mandatory

Re: ***2014 New WTA ranking point distribution***

I think the Slam points would be too easy to remember. I want

Grand Slam:

W 1987
F 1302
SF 764
QF 441
4R 211
3R 136
2R 72
1R 8.5

Seriously. Who comes up with this shit? 780, 430, 240.

Why not 800, 450 and 250.

Or something even easier: 2500, 1750, 1000, 500, 250, 150, 75, 10.

- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a reigning world #1.
- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a top 5 player at a major.
- Caroline Wozniacki has not beaten a top 3 player en route to any of her 23 titles.
- Caroline Wozniacki has beaten two top 5 players en route to her 23 titles (#4 Zvonareva and #5 Schiavone)

-Her fans think she had very bad luck with her Grand Slam and Regular Tour draws.
