Sugiyama's Successes!

-Comes out for an early start today at 10am and drops first set against Alexandra Stevenson only to win the second set 6-2

-Falls behind in third set but breaks Alex as Alex is serving for the match.

-Saves three match points to defeat Alex 7-6(7) in the third. The second match point saved by AI started with a first serve from Alex at 119 mph which landed NEARLY ON THE LINE into AI's BODY.

-At 6 all in the tiebreak Ai hits a forehand inside out which touches the line but is given to Alex. Ai just moves on and plays a good next point to save another match point. She finishes the match with a good first serve into Alex's backhand drawing the error.

-Ai drops first set to Kim and falls behind a break in the second set. She uses a combination of brilliant net attacks, smart counterpunching and defense and taking the ball early to win 5 of 6 games and seize the second set.

-Falls behind 0-15 at 0-0 in third set and rain begins to fall but Ai lunges at a backhand passer to pass Kim at the net despite being worried about wet lines. She therefore prevents herself from having to start up again after an hour break at 0-30. Instead she starts at 15 all

-Watches her 4-1 lead disappear as Clijsters steps up her aggression to tie the match at 4 all in the third but then Ai plays a nice game at 4 all and breaks Kim to win the tournament.

-After a brief rest wins a tough first set in the doubles and then cruises along with Kim to take the second set 6-0.

-Steps onto the court AGAIN for the FIFTH TIME IN ONE DAY along with KIM CLIJSTERS (counting rain delay but not a one hour practice session in the morning) to defeat top doubles players LINDSAY DAVENPORT and LISA RAYMOND in straight sets with an impressive scoreline of 6-1, 6-4!!!!!!

* 100000000000

-Runs several hundred miles after her singles and doubles victories to Indian Wells to start practice there. Runs through snow in the mountains and desert rains ... oh, just kidding LOL!!!!!!!

And Amanda being in two finals in a row and then winning this one today for the second time in three years is like the cherry on top for me.
