I was watching the final of Ai and Kim and sugiyama reminds me so much of martina hingis, they have similar game styles and they are both so consistent...And to add on top of that they are both great in changing direction of the ball...Agree or Disagree

The thing about ai is that she only have one great tournament every six months, she really need to get consistent, and top 20 definitely has a place for her given her talent

FWTT
-Oldest game in wtaboard, started in April 2000 even before wtaworld is born.
-You can create your own player, making their own name, making their personality.
-Some player has been playing for more than 10 years

Ability and talent has never been her problem. She has beaten Hingis before also.
She tends to lose the plot and go on a losing streak sometimes... thats the difference between her and Martina consistency wise.
Then she will have wins over top top players.

No, actually Kimmie is reminding me of Hingis of the last few years...in terms of letting matches go.

OH DEFINITELY! As a long-time Hingis fan I kept thinking that many times. It's like she studied Hingis. Very similar style today. She was very good at playing good defense when necessary and counterpunching while attacking and being pretty solid at the net when necessary. She still does not have the same finesse as Martina did but pretty much did a lot of things very similarly. But as a counterpuncher like Ai you pretty much have to play like Hingis did to beat Lindsay, Eleni, Alexandra and Kim in the same tournament.

Ai hits it harder and flatter and less consistent and doesn't mix things up as much. Hingis uses much more topspin and is much slower. The only similarity is their crap serves and ability to take the ball early.

God was that not a horrendous match? Congrats Ai but choking aside the points were abysmal.

I've been a fan of Ai's for a long time (and accidentally met her once as I've said on this board about 28 times).

She is a very clever player, she always has been... I really hope this isn't a flash in the pan thing cos I do still think she can make some sort of impact even now, maybe not win a slam, but certainly challenge for one.

Go Ai

I don't see that much similarity between the 2. Ai hits it very flat, Hingis doesn't... and there's a lot of players who are good counterpunchers, and quick around the court.

ooooo, I have to disagree with you. The times that Martina Hingis played her best to beat players like Lindsay or Jenn she did flatten out the ball more often. She still used her topspin at the right times but also flattened it out when needed. No offense, but we saw a lot of different Martinas on the court depending on her confidence and mood and the one you are remembering is definitely not the one I remember.

Yes if this is the closest we can find to a Hingis-clone so to speak than it only confirms my belief that Hingis cannot be copied.

NO TWO PLAYERS are exactly like and Ai does not always play like today but she was more patient at the right times today and more aggressive at the right times too. Overall she looked more like Hingis than she ever has. I am not saying she was a Hingis clone but the similarities were there.

Let's just hope Ai won't copy Martina and fake an ankle injury when she has no hope of winning a GS ever again and retires and tries to make up for her lost childhood by devouring boyfriend after boyfriend.

That's weird because she always reminded me of Monica Seles.
Takes the ball early, and great footwork.
