Smile Was the Weather Serena's Culprit?

The weather was just soooooo damp the first few days - and Serena had to hang around before she was due to play. I've heard over the years that dank - damp and rainy weather is not good for arthritis or anything like that (tendonitis - sp=?).

In other words, if the weather had of been full of sunshine and blue skies would Serena's knee have acted up? Was this her tourney to win - but instead - she just couldn't defend because of the chilly - damp and downright rainy weather?

My money would have been on Serena - but since we can't control all things in the universe - it does give the other players a chance to truly believe they can win a tourney.

I agree with posters who feel Serena has a fear of losing. However that was not why she withdrew. She was afraid of having to play multiple matches on her sore knee.

Beat'em down Ms Williams, beat'em down!

Victoria Duval - coming to a slam near you
Françoise Abanda definitely a future #1 --- Taylor Townsend devastation on the march
Venus and Serena ferocious grannies --- Kimiko Date Krumm great granny still doing her thing.

Speaking from experience with athletic injuries, the weather would cause problems for anyone who has joint problems, i.e. knee, shoulder, elbow...ect.

I"m not a big Serena fan, but I doubt she would have pulled out if the weather were sunny. We all laugh when old people say they can feel a storm coming in their joints, days before it hits, but it's true. The pressure changes and so does the humidity, and it has an effect on joints. Hell I feel it in my knee and shoulder and I'm only 28! Ofcourse I have metal pieces in my shoulder, but I digress, YES I think the weather had a lot to do with it.

I'm going to go sign myself into an old folks home now

oh please, she did the same damn thing here in Montreal in 2002, which was just before the US Open, and i'm sure she CAN play, but she just didn't want to maybe hurt it. i'm sure she would be able to play and everything would be fine, but there was a minute chance that she could have gotten injured and seeing as Miami is her next tournament after this one, she didn't want to be injured and not be able to play there. if there is the slightest chance that she'll be injured, she'll pull out of a tournament
