Will the upcoming war enable Clijsters or other non Americans to get a GS title?

Officially VENUS WILLIAMS did not go to Dubaui because of a schedule issue, but in reality, a war in the Middle East seemed quite emminent and that was probably the reason for the cancellation at her parents request. I VENUS will not go in that region, then it is most certain that SERENA will not travel in that are as well.

If Cowboy Georgie initiates the war in late March or early April, then reprisals may occur on U.S. soil and possibly British and French ground as well.

If these actions occur then most, if not all, of the U.S. players will not travel overseas and participate in tour events during that period, possibly leaving Roland Garros and Wimbledon without any American players.

This situation could enable Clijsters and other Euro players the best opportunity that they may have in several to win these events.

However, if Kim wonder under these circumstances an asterisk could be placed by her name or the name of another winner for winning under special conditions.

Let us hope and pray that this situation does not occur and not just for the minor issue of a few tennis tournaments.

Well, if a war does start in March or even April, there's a good chance it will be over before the Spring GS. And even if it is not, Paris or London are as (un)safe as any cities the United States when it comes to terror attacks. If this war starts, it wil be scary time for anybody, but I don't think tennis players would be at any particular risk.

asterisk

Tee - You're being a bit silly here, although I'm sure you'll provoke a few responses from people in need of anger-management classes. Go look in any record book, and see if there's an asterisk next to the 1973 Wimbldon champion. That was the strike year. Jan Kodes was the only top 20 player to play.

Check out the US Open champs from 1941-5. The Europeans couldn't get over here easily. They kinda had war.

The 1943 US open champ was Joe Hunt. He sure didn't win any other GS titles. I don't see an asterisk.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

hmmmm.....T-acky, time u got a bit back.....u always look for a fight...since when has there been a GS in Bagdad?...but all Aussies are inbred right? (will never let u forget that, I appologise to every other American here...this is aimed at T-acky, we don't have the Jerry Springer show mate!!)

To answer your'e question......I believe the WTA are asking players to wear "bullet-proof-jackets" and have "air raid sirens" a must at all GS venues... Dick-Head

****** Daria Sam, Jarka, Casey, Serena , then the guys with nice asses on the ATP, followed by other Aussies, bit of a gap...then Venus.....bit of a bum scratch...then will watch Lisiki or Radwanksa...gap...everyone else (or sleep) ******

I predict the situation will become pretty much like the Israel/Palestine situation as long as the United States has a military presence in Iraq.
It is not possible to have everybody happy. There are too many conflicting interests in the middle East and the peoples of the ME often speak through violence.
But life will go on and the tennis players will probably be as safe at their Europen venues as they would be any place in the world.

our PM is more atuned to hanging his y-fronts on the clothes line than running a country....no hack on the US folk here...most of my internet friends are US....

a) Not all Iraqi citiens, family, children can be put in a box and be called "IRAQ" with Saddams regime

b) Not all American citizens, family, children can be put in a box and be called "AMERICA" with Bush's regime

any difference?

Give me a break....I write as I posted in the other thread on tradgedies to help me deal with the loss of life.....I don't want to write another

Asterisk - See Roger Maris 1961 home run record

To some jonbon/misinformed - I do not care more for a tennis event than the loss of human life.

I just thopught that it could bring about an interesting scenario if that situation occurred.
