I can not recall any player obviously tank a match, but I am reading a book about the men's tour in the 80's and it talks about how tanking was really common back then. I just wondered what matches people have seen on the women's tour that you think a player tanked. The only match I can think of is maybe Hingis losing to Dokic at Wimbledon 1999? Been so long since I saw it I cant remember exactly how it panned out in the second set, but it is possible she just wanted to get off the court especially after the French Open final two weeks before.

Vera Zvonareva, 2nd set vs Serena Williams Roland Garros 2002

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.

Lucic against Plischke French Open a couple of years ago. after about 10 minutes she couldn't care less.

Didn't see it, but heard a lot about Patty Schnyder tanking her matches against Anna K.

Also Iva, pretty much every match after loosing a close first set. Against Dementieva at Wimby last year would be a classic example.

anna vs widjaja in usopen 2002

pretty pathetic. anna wanted sooo much to leave the court soon as a possible. she was bombing all balls out, or netting them. and the crowd wasnt being nice, they were booing her and whistling too. it was also plain awful to watch...

if im not wrong, anna did 3-1 on the first set then she lost 11 games in a row. and acted like nothing happened.. how polite

Yeah, I saw that match between Patty and AnnaK. live. Patty played like she had a plane to catch. Also, the television didn't show it, but she stared at Anna on almost all of the changeovers. I don't think she likes Anna very much.

I beg to differ. I don't think Anna tanked either match. I think she felt pressure in both matches, and failed to produce. Not exactly a tanking
