No need to throw shades on Venus, jeez.

Re: Hingis NOT returning to singles... for now

Although she isn't ruling it out altogether, based on what she says here I can't see her making a return to singles ever. "Not my type of personality" is pretty clear IMO, and at her age it's hard to see her personality changing.

This was the problem all along with those hoping she would come back and beat everybody bar Serena. At a stretch I suppose it might be just conceivable that that she would be prepared to make a 100% commitment to putting in all the hard work on the training courts and in smaller tournaments to build up her game again, as long as she was 100% sure it would pay off.

But that's the catch-22: she won't know whether it'll pay off until she's put in the hard work, and she is realistic enough to know that the chances of it paying off are closer to 5% than 100%.

Venus is reaching third rounds? Since when.

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met./All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet - One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;/'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet/One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet/One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get/One perfect rose.

Re: Hingis NOT returning to singles... for now

I don't think that coming back to playing singles was ever on her mind. She's realistic about her chances, and it's totally understandable that she is not ready to go through the all hard work required for a dubiously successful come back. Playing doubles for fun is another matter.

If she is successful at doubles, there's no doubt she would attempt a singles mini-comeback. Upon its failure, she will go back to doubles only.

Re: Hingis NOT returning to singles... for now

She's definitely going to come back - she's seen first hand the state of the tour and she can easily do some serious damage - basically all she has to do is bring them into the net and either lob, pass or make this current generation play a volley and the point is practically hers. I mean come on Caroline is currently top 10 and can barely win 2 matches in a row these days!

RIP Elena Baltacha, thank you for dedicating your life to a sport we all love. You'll be missed but never forgotten.

Will you all leave Venus out of this. Venus has had multiple injuries and a degenerating disease and yet she is still able to keep trying. It is not in Venus personality to Quit as soon as she encounters difficulties, she persevers to the end. The following sentence below is a good indication of Hingis' mind set and that is one of the reasons Venus has a more successful career and life over Hingis.

Quote:
"You have to put so much effort into it. Playing tournaments is the easy part, but it's all the behind the scenes training that people don't see, the six to eight hours of training and really the older you get, the harder it gets"...
Of course she is not going to meet the top players in doubles (except maybe Venus/Serena)therefore she will have a much easier time there.

Leave Venus out of this and carry on with your delusional expectations of Hingis returning to singles. If she couldn't put in the effort at 22 I strongly doubt she is going to bother at 33. The only reason she is still hanging around tennis is because she failed at everything else she tried. Apparently there is nothing else she can do with her life.

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the SILENCE OF OUR FRIENDS. MLK

I doubt she'd return to singles on the tour. She knows the drug testing requirements are too tough the demands of the tour are too much.

Re: Hingis NOT returning to singles... for now

She wouldn't do well in singles today. 2006 was a decent comeback in singles but at age 32 and many years removed from singles tennis it would be nearly impossible to even reach that point.
