USA WTA coverage the worst on the planet!

we all know this already, but i just had to vent!

there's streams from the ITF in Vancouver, so we can see Fichmann etc, but we can't watch Azarenka, Kvitova, Ivanovic.

what a ****ing JOKE!

Re: USA WTA coverage the worst on the planet!

Totally agree. Men's tennis coverage isn't much better. Last night, with an ATP 500 tourney in DC and WTA premier in San Diego, the Tennis Channel was showing a replay from Kitzbuhel. WTF?

Re: USA WTA coverage the worst on the planet!

I'm sure the US has SOME country somewhere beat in "worst on the planet"

It does suck though. No one wants to watch all these random replays on Tennis Channel while live matches are ACTUALLY happening ffs

I just don't understand WHY it's so bad though. I mean, what does the WTA have to lose by just providing some free crappy stream on their website if no networks are interested in broadcasting certain matches?

Re: USA WTA coverage the worst on the planet!

There's not enough funding to pay the camera operators, and all the other things it takes to do a professional broadcast.

Well, there may be funding, but it is not "worth" it to pay all of these people.

Throwing a fixed camera at a 25K in Bad Saluagu is not equivalent to the operation WTA level tournaments want to portray. For some tournies, having a few days of professional coverage trumps, 7 days of fixed camera access.

there's been streaming from day 1 of every WTA event i can think of this year, except the ones in the USA. even the 125k in Cali had 2 courts streamed from day 1.

Re: USA WTA coverage the worst on the planet!

Forthcoming tennis matches with available live streams:

Southern California Open Order of Play:
http://worldtimeengine.com/current/c...2008_usa/43178

This can't be good for the WTA image and popularity, even the ATP Challenger Tour is better covered. Very frustrating.

For instance Laura Robson vs Petra Kvitova match should start soon (21:00 in EET), but how many people is going to see them play?

Re: USA WTA coverage the worst on the planet!

Even radiotennis.com bailed out after last night match won by Hantuchova. They will be doing a Futures event in Fort Worth, Texas starting tomorrow. Overall, WTA needs to relook at their TV coverage in USA/ESPN. Indian Wells and Miami also lacks the coverage.

I blame Stacey.

Can't wait for Venus to take her job after 2016.
