Re: Most Impressive Tennis Accomplishment(s)

I think it's hard to win a slam, harder to defend it and hardest to win it three consecutive times. That said, I find simultaneous three-peats at multiple slams the most impressive.

Australian-French: Monica Seles
French-Wimbledon-US: Helen Wills
French-Wimbledon: Suzanne Lenglen
Wimbledon-US: Maureen Connolly

Defending a slam obviously.

Up until 2012 it was winning the career slam, but now the parameters have shifted.

Re: Most Impressive Tennis Accomplishment(s)

It's great to finish a season/year as the #1, but to do it for multiple seasons is even more impressive and an indicator of a truly great and dominant player with longevity at the very top of the game. The list of legends who were the best in the world for multiple seasons is not very long and only contains players who were the best of their respective generations which further underlines how difficult and impressive the achievement is:

Steffi Graf
Martina Navratilova
Chris Evert
Serena Williams
Caroline Wozniacki
Lindsay Davenport
Justine Henin
Martina Hingis
Monica Seles

Karolina of House Woźniacka, first of Her name, the Undefeated (when healthy),
Queen of New Haven, Protector of the WTA, Breaker of Serve, Mother of GOATs

Most Bagels given in 2015, tied with Serena Williams

Re: Most Impressive Tennis Accomplishment(s)

Steffi's Golden Slam in 1988.

To win a career grand slam is impressive. To win a grand slam in a calendar year is insane. But to win the grand slam AND the Olympic gold is legendary. It takes incredible consistency, ability to stay healthy and a bit of luck. I don't think we'll ever see such an accomplishment again.

Re: Most Impressive Tennis Accomplishment(s)

I think defending a slam is the most impressive as it shows that your victory at the tournament was more than just a one off fluke.

Re: Most Impressive Tennis Accomplishment(s)

the real golden Slam by Graf back in 1988
nothing else

Something was bound to go right sometime today, All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained, It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth, When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

Well if you take each tournament individually and the time gaps between each then that is exactly what the bald woman in your avi did.
