I have it.

I bought it n Melb from a Specialist Sports Bokstore.

I buy it their each year. Theguy is a sposrts nut and knows someone from the WTA. Every year he says it gets tougher and tougher to buy- thuis eyar he only received 2. Its odd, he says thye Apt are reallt easy todeal with and he can get as many as he wants. He thinks its odd b'c the WTA books have heaps more requests and its odd they don't want to sell more whilst things are going so well for them

If you email the WTA, they might send you an order form document to print out. If not, the cost is $20 in the US (Florida residents add sales tax) and $25 for the rest of the world. Make check or money order payable to WTA Tour. (Or send them your credit card number. In fact, if you're paying by credit card, you might be able to call and order it by phone.) Make sure to give them your name and full address, whether writing or calling. Send orders to:

WTA Tour
133 First St. NE
Third Floor
St. Petersburg, FL 33701

To facilitate things, you could put "Media Guide" above the top line of the address. (In other words, address it to

Media Guide
WTA Tour
133 etc....)

I love the media guides but last year wasn't spiral-bound and it was difficult to read.

Does anyone know how this year's guide is "built"?

I just got mine today. That was fast. I only sent my order in last Monday, and there was no mail yesterday, so that's roughly one week.

This year's book is huge. 476 pages! They jammed in a bunch of new stuff. If you liked the 2002 guide, you'll love 2003's!

Some of the new stuff (I'm pressed for time, will add more later):

Bios now include a chart breakdown for singles and doubles for 2002 (tourns played, wins, finals, semis, etc., how many times they posted each possible finish) along with the season W/L.

There's a chart in the front listing player birthdays chronoligically. (Includes top 125 singles and top 50 doubles players.)

more to come....

Some other new stuff:

2 separate formats for the schedule: a "quick find" chart (2 pages), and a more extensive list, like last year. The extensive list still has the pertinent tourney info (surface, draw sizes, tier, prize money, date), plus it has the full name of the tournament, the location, contact info for tickets (phone/email), and contact info for the media director and the tournament director.

There's a complete prize money breakdown for all tournaments, based on total prize pool and the various draw sizes (S/Q/D), with a list below each column of every tournament it applies to.

There's a seperate section devoted to the Tier I's (since 1980, when Tier system started). It has: Career Tier I titles for active players; All-time Tier I title winners (Top 10); Lowest-ranked Tier I winners and runners-up; "Tier I Spotlight" pages (1/2 page each), which include basic tourney info (including website), when the tourney was first held (and when reached Tier I status, if different), who has won the most singles titles, who was the lowest-ranked winner, and a "10-year Honor Roll" which lists the singles finals scores and doubles champs for each of the past 10 years (with seedings); and the final page of this section is a chart listing career best finishes at each of the Tier I's (including year(s) they achieved this finish) for each of the top 20 players.

In the setion on rankings, there's a couple of additions. The history of the #1 singles ranking now tells you how many weeks each stint at #1 was, instead of having to count them yourself. They have a similar list for the history of the #1 doubles ranking, although it doesn't tell you how long each stint was. There's some new info in ranking facts. There's a list of career wins over #1 players. Not surprisingly, Navratilova leads. The #2 player is surprising. Her name is not Graf, Seles, or Evert. There's longest stint in the top 2, oldest top-10ers, lowest ranked players to win a Tier I, and lowest ranked players to win a Tier II.

There are a slew of lists in the prize money section, most along the lines of most years earning $X (and consecutive).

In the section with Grand Slam and year-end Championships results, they added a section for the Year-End Championships similar to what they had for the slams. For every year in which the YEC were single-elimination, they list results from the quarterfinals on (with seeds) and the winner's paycheck. For years with RR, they list from semis on. Plus they have finals from Colgate and Toyota Championships.

In the tournaments results section, they have a complete alphabetical list of everyone who won a WTA (or equivalent) singles title in the open era, and which ones. However, there is a mistake in the very first name, as they list Louise Allen as winning the 1981 Avon of Detroit (should be Leslie).

They have some added lists in Victory Records (such as Qualifiers/ Lucky Losers to win singles titles).

In the section on Former #1's and Grand Slam Winners of the Open Era, they've added retirement dates. And they've returned the lists of past winners of all of the WTA Awards (complete up through 2001 awards; 2002 haven't been given yet).

This is just the new stuff, in addition to the goldmine of information that last year's Guide contained. Plus, there's the usual interesting tidbits in the player bios. Roesch is lefthanded, but her first coach (who didn't know) instructed her to play righthanded. Tarabini owns a pizza shop. (Anyone who loves pizza... )
