Venus/Serena VS Martina/Lindsay

......................... Venus/Serena ........ Martina/Lindsay

Titles.................... 50 .......................... 78
Grandslams............ 9 ........................... 8
Weeks at no.1........ 44 ......................... 247
Head-to-head......... 35 ......................... 28

TITLES
Martina/Davenport lead by a good amount.

GRANDSLAMS
Venus/Serena lead by 1 more grandslam.

WEEKS AT NO.1
Serena & Venus are assured to add no.1 weeks at least for the next few months, but Hingis/Davenport lead in that category by far.

HEAD-TO-HEAD
Venus & Serena lead, mainly because of the Serena vs Davenport head-to-head.

So, if they all retire today, which combo is greater?

maybe we should have a poll on this?

Martina/Lindsay for sure!!

Martina and Lindsay have been on the tour longer and have already past their peaks. There was very little competetion to them during their peak years.

Venus and Serena are only NOW reaching their peak performance, and only time will tell if they can maintain it.

Try the comparison over just the last FOUR years and see how it stacks up!. Should be quite a difference, but then Lindsay had injuries and Martina simply lost her ability to compete with Venus and Serena (since early 2001) BEFORE her injury. I would NOT count Lindsay out just yet. She has the game, but just needs to get her mental confidence back.

Seles/Graf will never replicated or duplicated. But of the 2 pairs....right now it'd be Martina/Lindsay, but that could change as soon as this year.

One is already retired and her tenure at No. 1 is questionable since she possessed an inability to Win slams like a TRUE NO. 1 would.

It's all about the grandslams, baby!
Venus & Serena have surpassed Lindsay and Martina, and they will distance themselves even more.

hmmm, would love to say Venus and Serena, but it would appear that Marti and Lindsay by the #s.

When ranked #1 and #2 how many times did Marti and Lindsay meet in the finals of tournys "all not just the slams"

what is the basis for grouping hingis and lindsay together? In fact why group venus and serena together? last time I checked tennis was a single sport.

The WTA Women of Wonder Featuring....The Goddess: Venus Williams The Glamazon: Serena Williams The Lioness: Jennifer Capriati The High Priestess: Monica Seles The Saint: Kim Clijsters The Phoenix: Chanda Rubin The Bon Vivant: Amelie Mauresmo The Titan: Lindsay Davenport The Courtesan: Anna Kournikova The Exile: Martina Hingis The Sorceress: Anatasia Myskina The Minx: Maria Sharapova

cybelle I think the basis is pretty obvious.

Hingis and Davenport occupied the #1 and #2 spots in the rankings for three straight years, (1998-2000) and on either side of those 3 years one held the #1 ranking (hingis in 1997/Davenport in 2001). Infact no-one outside of these two held the #1 ranking from March 1997 until October 2001- thats a long time. They won 8/13 slams over a three year period. They DOMINATED concurrently.

Now Venus and Serena have won 8/11 grandslams since mid 2000. Each has held the #1 ranking in that period. They are DOMINATING concurrently.

Often a tennis players legacy is linked just as much to their rivalries with other players as to their individual achievements, especially when the rivalry prevented one player from compiling a greater record than they already do have. Just like you can rarely mention Navratilova without Evert or Graf without Seles, the records of Davenport and Hingis are inextricably bound together in history, and apart from their connection as siblings Serena and Venus will be remembered for their rivalry too. No tennis player is an island

no doubt it should be Martina/Lindsay

The loser is the one who failed to understand that it needs to stand up as many times as has fall not once less...
