no =)

I don't know exactly which players your considering....all time? or just those players? Arantxa should be ahead of Venus and Serena , definitely (and martina too in my opinion), Venus and Serena I believe are better players, but since Venus and Serena' career is just beginning you can't really compare them against Arantxa's career =P

Lol Kart.

I'd keep your list the same except switch Hingis and Serena around. Serena has done more in her short career, IMO.

Well I put Hingis before because even though they have same amount of slams, Hingis has many more weeks at no.1 and many more titles.

Yeah, but when people look back, they don't look back at weeks #1 or more titles, they look at the GS's and which one's you won.

Serena won them all, Martina didn't, and that's what everyone else will see.

yeah but Hingis reached 6 consecutive australian open finals which is an incredible feat including a triple crown. Serena has never defended a title. There are many other factors... Also Hingis reached the finals of the French it's not THAT different from winning, it's not as if she litteraly sucked at the french.

Rating 'em

I think it is possible and appropriate to rank V&S ahead of Arantxa. Venus' win today matches her total number of titles with those earned by Arantxa. It would be safe to say that she will well eclipse Arantxa over the next couple of years. She has already matched her with Slams, total titles and is just one week shy of her # of weeks at #1. Arantxa never had anything like Venus' 35 match-winning run.

Serena has already surpassed Arantxa in Slams won, is not that far from the same number of total titles. She has nearly tripled Arantxa's # of weeks at #1. Serena ended a year as the #1 player where Arantxa never did. Serena's four Slams in a row is something few have accomplished.

Just my thoughts...but each player had or is having a wonderful career worthy of the Tennis Hall of Fame with a distinct playing style and personality.

But again, people and sports analyist and tennis analyist will not look back and say, well, she got to the final, so that's just as good. Or think, well, she got to the Oz Final 6 years in a row. I know I won't be thinking of that.

When people look back, they look at what GS they won, not by what finals they reached. That's just the way it goes.

And also, if you notice when Navratilova first came back, they didn't mention how many weeks at #1, but rather how many GS she won. People do not refer to Graf as the person with the most weeks at #1, but as the person with the most GS titles in singles in the open era.

Intentionally or otherwise, you ordered them by number of GS titles won.

5 Hingis >
5 Serena >
4 Venus >
4 Arantxa >
3 Davy >
3 Jenny >
2 Mary >
1 Gaby >
1 Conchi

You also failed to say if this is career, or who beats who on best day. And is it singles only, or tennis?

Career, tennis, there's nothing wrong with your list, except Conchi belongs ahead of Gaby. Martina leads Serena in GS doubles titles 9 - 8, and that's a fine tie-breaker if you're talking tennis, not just singles.

Singles only, each during their best year, on a good day?

Serena > Venus > Hingis > Arantxa > Davy > Jenny > Mary > Gaby > Conchi

I almost put Davey over ASV, but then I thought, the Arantxa who won RG in 1998 was already several steps slower than she was at her peak. At her best I think she'd have run down everything Lindsay could throw at her.

I'd LOVE to see ASV at her best play Serena. Serena may think Venus and Kim make her hit a lot of shots. Arantxa was a human backboard. That match would be some fun.

BTW, Venus over Martina on their best day is a tough case to make. To my eyes, Martina 1997 was way faster than Martina 2000+. And they both like to rally til they get something to exploit.

If Venus serves the lights out, its all over.

If Venus has a good not great serving day, say 7 aces, 3 DFs, and her winners are about eqaul to UEs, the Martina 1997 would win a lot. Like 50% of the time. So I'm putting Venus ahead of Martina, but if you want to argue the other way, you won't get much grief from me. I do remember what Maritna was.

IMO Davenport's singles career is greater than ASV's
