Martina Hingis on swiss TV

Well for all thouse having a chance to get Swiss TV

Check SFDRS 1 at 17.55 today. Martina will appear in St. Moritz aktuell - the programme covering the ski world championships. But today they'll have Martina as a special guest as there are no races.

Apparently they'll talk about her retirement.

Will post more about it on monday.

hmmm not sure if you can see it through the internet

will check.....

hmmmm doesn't look like. Actually it says that St. Moritz aktuell can be watched on real video but I made a mistake

Martina isn't on St. Moritz aktuell (which is on SF DRS 2 at 8 PM) but on St. Moritz heute (which is actually the one I meant just got the wrong name.)

But hey who knows maybe you might be lucky. So if you want check this site:
http://www.stmoritz2003.com/001stm_0208_en.htm

and under links you can find out more. (Yes part of it is in english...)

O.K. here's a short transcript of the 45 min interview.

Sure the very first question after a short intro showing the big headlines of her retirement was has she retired.
Answer wasn't a clear yes or no.
As for right now she isn't playing competitive tennis anymore, as she isn't able to fully use her feet. After a while the pain keeps coming back. So she isn't actually able to train as hard as she should to be competitive. After 2 3 hrs on the court she feels the pain again. (And she doesn't want to play with painkillers and therefore may even do some more damage to her health) But to be competitve you have to train 5 or more hrs.
She still loves playing tennis and still does so almost each day. Tennis will always be part of her live just for the moment not as much as it used to be. Now she's what she said a sparingpartner for the other swiss players like Patty Schnyder, Myriam Casanova or even Ivo Heuberger.

Oh Heinz Günthard was there as well - saying that he understands very well that Martina isn't able yet to really put the line. And she has all the rights to do so. To leave it open wether she'll ever come back or not.

They also spoke about playing with pain and how to ignore it while playing. (They showed several interviews with doctors and sportpsychologs talking about it) Even talking about Steffi Graf how she was able to play with pain. Heinz said - that she (Steffi) loved that sport so much she absolutely wanted to play no matter what.

Right now it doesn't look like Martina is willing to do the same.

As most of you guys know she started school this january. She's working on the english proficiency. 4 times a week she'll has to sit behind a desk at a school in Zurich. She wasn't able to talk about other project as they haven't been sorted out yet. Of course she's having mort time now to do otherthings not only privat but also along with her sponsors. She said she's been invited several times to go for that bobsleige run in St. Moritz but before she never was able to accept the invitation only now she could go for it and enjoyed it very much.

She's been enjoying her holiday in St. Moritz (there were schoolholidays that's why she was ablt to spent the week up there) She met new ppl (mainly skiers) and is apparently a pretty good skier herself. (So says Vreni Schneider one of the most succesfull skiers from Switzerland). Went to see some races (Skiing and Horseriding) enjoyed to have late breakfast - enjoying the sun go skiing just relaxing or horseriding.

During the interview they were showing some of Martinas most beautiful and also sad moments.

All in all it was a pretty good interview.
But no big news.

I'm thinking Hingis will be back maybe in a year....or maybe that's wishful thinking. Thanks for the report, Doris Loeffel.

oh, and doris, don't you think that martina's speaking swiss german much better again? i thought it was quite obvious that when she travelled the world, she was probably almost always speaking english or slovakian (with her mother), and was having difficuty expressing herself in swiss german.
and now that she spends her time constantly in switzerland, she has definitely improved the language again. just an observation

Ah so Martina has potatoes in her mouth when she speaks Schweizer Deutch as well as when she speaks English? That's interesting.

Thanks for the report Doris.
