Is Anyone Else Hopping on the Jamie Hampton Bandwagon?

I'm finding her to be one of my favourite players to watch. I always had an interest in her results since she used to post on this board and I followed her (relatively) slow climb up the ranks to her current position. She has steadily improved her rank particularly this year.

I enjoy watching her game including the net approaches (although she did miss a few "gimmes" to close out the 1st set) and the slices (maybe only used on grass?) and attacking style.

I actually know very little about her - less than probably anyone in the top 50 as she has steadlily but quietly climbed the rankings. I know she was born in "West Germany" (the Berlin wall was still up in 1990) and I think people here say she is half-white/ half-Korean. The commmentator also said last night that her Mum was doing her laundry until recently Hopefully a tennis magazine or someone will do an article on her (mentioning how she used to post on WTAworld of course!) because I find her fascinating .

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze

I don't really know much about her. I know she lives in Auburn, Alabama and if you listen to her talk she has that southern dialect. I would guess her dad was in the military since she was born in Germany and I believe there is a military base from the area she and her family lives. Of course that's just speculation on my part about her dad being in the military.

I like how she plays. She's a fun watch. But the back thing seems chronic. She'll never be a top five player if that can't be managed.

The injuries are a concern.
Also how she couldn't close out the first set yesterday - but I haven't seen enough of her to know if she is a poor "closer" generally.

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze

I've seen her twice.

Against Azarenka and against Jankovic.
Not quite sure what to make of her.

I quite like her game. She makes a lot of errors but she has variety and is a good shot maker.

Not a fan of her as a person--yet--but there's no denying she has a dynamic game and is going to be a staple for America in the top 20 for the next X years.

She may even win a Slam one day--maybe, if she sorts out her brain and finesses her weapons.

Top 5 seems reachable in the next 12-24 months.

I cheer on scrubs.

She's quite refreshing to watch.
I became a fan during AO2013, but I had my doubts after that injury. But wow I'm glad she's taken that confidence and ran with it.

Re: Is Anyone Else Hopping on the Jamie Hampton Bandwagon?

She is a very good player. Hopefully she can keep injury-free because that's really what stopped her progress.

Supporting useless players before it was cool.

Not really, no.

Just so you know: I'm better than you because my fave is better than your fave. Your fave is a bitch and a shrieking BBB. Or was it pusher? Who cares. She's a classless brat anyway. But don't you dare insult my fave, idiot.
