There is no better platform than Wimbledon where the documentary is the buzz.
you're being sarcastic, right?

if that is so, the film makers are pretty stupid.

Baird and Major dismissed the allegations. “In trying to censor this film about the Williams sisters,” they told The New York Times, “the U.S.T.A. is simply making up an agreement that never existed — we shot footage at the U.S. Open with the U.S.T.A.’s permission and of course never agreed to pay them for our own work.”

Here's the Wikipedia entry for the fair use doctrine:
Exactly. Most Documentaries get away with using what they use under fair use.

You almost couldn't criticize anyone using video without "fair use" kicking in... is a balance of the interests between educating the public and exploitation of someone's copyright. Fair use wouldn't apply if they used the whole match or a large portion of the match but to show the winning shot and Serena lifting the trophy in the context of her life story seems to this entertainment attorney to be text book "fair use".

That said, there could still be a settlement but it would be cosmetic...USTA gets a couple thousand and the doc makers get official is always better to have official permission if you can get it...fair use is usually a fall back position.

Everybody has a right to sue for anything they want, but the question is whether it really makes sense to hire expensive lawyers to actually do it. Here, I really don't think it does.

The tennis clips in the movie are all on Youtube. All of the "original" content is in the interviews and whatnot. Do you really think that people would be interested in seeing the movie for a bunch of compiled Youtube clips?
