Martha should have kept it cute in her interview yesterday.

Re: Sharapova: Which loss hurt the most?

1) The 2013 French Open Final hurt her heart.
I mean, she even resorted to passive-aggressive commentary in order to mask the pain. Almost like she lost her mind with disbelief for an hour or two.

2) The 2012 Olympic destroyed her pride.
She looked absolutely shell-shocked during and after that ass-kicking in front of the entire world.

All of the others were wound-licking loses, IMO.

Re: Sharapova: Which loss hurt the most?

I know this has a long time now but in 2007 Australian Open, Sharapova was the reigning US Open champion. Serena was out of shape and had come off the worst season of her career in '06. Many people, rightfully, thought Sharapova would win. I mean it was logical, no? She should have won given the two situations.

That was an important win for Serena and it has set the tone imo for all the matches that have come since: All on Serena's racquet.

Re: Sharapova: Which loss hurt the most?

I think its definitely the French Open Final. Others can claim the Olympics. But a loss to Serena on grass is always justifiable.

The loss at the French Open was the worse because:

1) It was on clay which is Serena's worse surface. If Serena can't be beaten here, where can Sharapova win?

2) Sharapova was the defending champion and this was a final

3) This was suppose to be the match where we saw "something new." After this match, this means the Pova camp has nothing left to try and therefore the results will just continue to be the same as before.

4) This last match seemed to have a finality to it that the other matches did not. Even after the loss in Miami I was still thinking there was a chance for Sharapova. But this match slams the door. There was a certain "case closed" to yesterday's results that the others didn't have.

5) Sharapova's post match comments tells me she is a defeated soul. When people start making the comments she made yesterday it tells me they have given up.They are now looking for scapegoat excuses to explain why they have no answers. Folks, its over.

I agree with this. A lot of her fans were saying that Serena wouldn't beat her on slow, red clay of Roland Garros just a few months ago.

Agreed.

It's going to take a SEVERE compounding of injuries (2013 AO QF) for Serena to lose to Maria.

At best, Sharapova is Venus-Lite.
Serena is used to the full-bodied taste of the original brew.
Don’t insult the Queen by serving her that watered down foreign stuff.
