French final: will the Williams 'defend' their all sister final?

Is clay the only surface where we may not see an all-Williams final?

Theyre VERY tough to stop irrespective of surface cos they both can dig deep when in trouble, but obviously they aren't as good on clay as they would be on other surfaces because some power is neutralized.

Do you think Kim or some other player like Jen, Momo etc with a good clay record might be able to make the final or will it be 5 slams in a row?......and what a feat that would be

Good luck to the Aussie and Balkan girls!

I agree. Venus & Serena own Wimbledon and US Open. Those are like THEIR grand slams. Australia eluded them because it was so early in the year and they were often not prepared or injured. The French is probably the toughest because there are so many talented clay courters out there, and the surface doesn't favour their strongest strengths (like grass does). With that said, it's obvious that these girls can win on clay. They've both won multiple clay titles. So they are favoured, but it will be the toughest to defend. It should be exciting. Maybe Venus will take it this year!!!

You're kidding me, right? Venus and Serena haven't even played in the Australian Open final, and you're already talking about Roland Garros? Why don't we get through the first Grand Slam before we start worrying about the second one? Better yet, let's get to the clay court season, see how everyone is doing, and then start making judgments about the chances of an all-Williams final.

No I'm pretty sure we'll see one again at the French. Put it in writing now!

It'll be tough for the sisters..I think they sort of took people by surprise last year..but this year everyone will definatly be gunning for them. I would really love if Kim could win the French..I got nothing against the sisters, and i'm not going to complain about another Williams/Williams final..I just think Kim really deserves a slam..and this one would be nice

I doubt it. They probably will come close to reaching the final (quarterfinals or semifinals), but only one of them will be in the final.

But who knows really, I didn't think they both would reach the final last year.

it's the hardest slam to defend. And the thing with clay, is that there are so many clay specialists.

It will be the toughest. Who knows? Wait and see. Too early to say. We don't know who will be healthy or not!

I think it will be hard to stop them making the final. But I really hope that Kim holds up that trophy. I think Mauresmo also has a really good chance as does Henin, but I don't think Capriati has that great a shot. Hantuchova could surprise as could Dokic.

But I'm hoping it is Kimmie holding up that trophy

I wouldn't mind seeing Kim holding up that trophy.

If Justine didn't get ill in Paris last year ... she was the one who keep one sister out of the final (she played 2 finals against Serena in the weeks before winning 1 one and losing one both in 3 great sets)

I think that Justine has a great chance in Paris this year!

Roland Garros '03,'05,'06,'07
US Open '03,'07 / Australian Open '04
Olympic Gold '04 /
YEC Madrid '06,'07
41 titles

Jelena Dokic (believe it or not) can do some damage on clay too. Possibly a healthy Daniilidou. For me the finals between the sisters are just not that exciting but I do root for Serena always. But clay is definitely the surface where other girls have much better chances.

I certainly hope that it won't be another williams final.
It's getting mundane here.
I would prefer Justine to go for it!
