Me too. And guess what, in response we have a similar facebook Maria thread now. And it all has nothing to do with actual tennis achievements.

I do agree that current tennis era is more demanding, but when looking a pro's and con's of both era's, it's not that huge like people think.
Hardly any women's matches were best of 5. And I grew up with wooden rackets, they weren't that heavy. Also, for most of her career Martina used a Yonex midsize graphite composite.

I'm not saying it was a walk in the park. But there were also more clay and grass events, which also reduce wear and tear on the body.

Re: Victoria Azarenka becomes youngest woman to cross $20 million in career earnings

It's not a stat that means that much to be honest - it's simply down to inflated prize money. She hasn't won the most titles, or slams or been ranked no.1 the longest of her age group in the history of the WTA tour, not even close. Would be interesting to compare her stats and titles to someone like Sabatini or Sanchez Vicario at her age and see the difference.

RIP Elena Baltacha, thank you for dedicating your life to a sport we all love. You'll be missed but never forgotten.

Prize money is NOT relevant at all. Each year the purse increases. It's absolutely not an indicator of ANYTHING.

I've got to agree.

Still I'm a little surprised she's won so much. Winning slams is so incredibly lucrative these days.

I remember when crossing the $10 million was a big deal.

Inflation.
