I said that because Maria got slaughtered. It was a joke.

I don't recall Serbia ever playing Australia in Fed Cup, so I just support them both

In Fed Cup or Olympics I support my country but in regular tournaments I support my favourite.

My fave is from my country so its never really a dilemma for me

If its Olympics or FedCup I will cheer for Team USA no matter who is playing.

Ok, I understood it as friends & family getting on your case for picking your fave over your country.
In all honesty, you should have seen the punishment you are talking about coming your way weeks before the Olympics started.

I must say, there is a slight difference between Olympic and FedCup.
FedCup is truly a collective effort, either the team loses or it wins. There is no partial victory when on team can gold in singles and the other team can gold in double.
It is all or nothing

One thing to consider, the importance medal count in the Olympics to each country.

If it matters where your country stands in overall medal count at the Olympics when sitting with your family, how does that affect your support for your fave when plying against your country in medal round

Geez and I thought I wasn't a very patriotic person.

I support my country, but the truth is that I really like all the Portuguese players. Well, they're from my country, I would like to see tennis being more supported in Portugal, so good results from them is the way to go.

Yes, I've never been faced with the dilemma though, it isn't like Ireland is much of a presence on tour.

Re: FED CUP: Does Anyone Find It Hard To Support His/Her Country OVer His/Her FAVE?

All the current Aussie FC players are major or minor faves of mine, so atm it's not a problem for me. But in DC I would always support Hewitt over Federer, even though in regular ATP competition it'd probably be the other way around.

FC/DC is about the country, not the players. I'm not superchauvinistic or anything, but I pretty much always support Aussie sportsmen/women when they're representing Australia.

Australia over my faves. No problem.

Fave ftw! Super gutted Ana's two wins were ultimately in vain.

In Fed Cup, country every time. But Olympics Is more nuanced. Doubles feels like a country effort but singles less so.

Strycova ~ Robson ~ Watson ~ Konta ~ Shvedova

Petkovic ~ Parmentier ~ Swan ~ Errani ~ Vekic ~ Pavlyuchenkova ~ Halep ~ Galfi ~ Riske
