What is all this "Serena played badly." Did you all even watch the match. It wasn't peak 2013 Rena, but she did not play a bad match. Jeez... One lil hiccup and then everyone's like "horrible, mess" etc.
Re: Charleston R3: Serena "the Lightbringer" Williams def M. Burdette 6-4 6-2
I think overall Serena played well. Obviously not at her peak 100%, but it was okay. Burdette was making a lot of her shots and didn't miss a lot for a good part of the match, and this was what upset Serena IMO....
I only saw the end of the match, so I can't really say, but from the little I saw Serena didn't seem to be happy at all, even shaking her head a couple of times. Obviously she did enough to win the match. I hope that she's OK.
I only saw the last part of the match as well. If you know Serena then you know she is hard on herself. When she makes an error she shakes her head in disgust like as if she is evaluating in her mind what she did wrong.
I was just thinking that as well. Why do they seem like they try so much harder when they play Serena?
Well, these players were winners in their youth.
They have pride and no one want to be embarrassed on the big stage.
If you are fortunate enough to play Serena, you are on the big stage; whether it is round 1 or semi final.
It is also a barometer to gauge where you are in your progress, Serena is measuring stick. You are happy if you get out of match w/o a bagel.
For all those reasons, many people will be watching, your family & friends, your rivals, etc..
bit underwhelming still 34W/12UE... please, girls, just keep trying The Lord.
Good clean match from Serena, I really enjoyed the first set.
If she had actually played badly, Mallory would have won this. A few too many errors from her(Mal) but she was not missing by much. Still has some work to do on her movement but a very bright future there.
GL in the quarters Serena! Really hoping for a sisters' match tomorrow.
