Re: Florianopolis SF: Puchkova def (1) V.Williams 4-6 6-4 7-5

I mentioned yesterday that her back was bothering her. She's struggling against players ranked lower than her. Not saying that they aren't good but she's too talented for a loss like this. That netcord was the turning point

Don't let the ball play you, you play the ball

Re: Florianopolis SF: Puchkova def (1) V.Williams 4-6 6-4 7-5

This was a good tournament for Venus. She has to continue to move forward and get as much match play in so her body can adjust. She's in the top 20s and now she can just move forward and get some kind of rythm with her game and her serving. It's been YEARS since Venus has played a lot of these players and she's going to have to learn their games all over again and adjust her style of play. And Venus is still going to have to WORK ON HER SERVE TO MAKE IT A WEAPON AND GET SOME FREE POINTS. That serve of hers has been her biggest liability. If she can get that going, then that will solve 90% of her problems.

So on to the next tournament. Go Venus and keep your head up.

Well that was surprising. Very surprising.

I suppose it just wasn't Venus's day, but to her credit she did hang in there till the end. Hopefully the matches she had this week will help Venus in Miami.

Have to say, Olga played some outstanding attacking tennis and made a lot of WOW shots. She missed a lot too but overall it was a very fine performance and she has come a hell of a long way in the last couple of years after looking at one point like it was her destiny to see out her career in 25k qualifying. Massive credit and respect to her for this comeback.

Really looking forward to the final now.

You always say that Venus needs matches. Today she showed again that she can't last more than 3 matches in a row. And how can she fix her serve with an ongoing serious back injury?

Yeah, she needs more time between matches. Favorable draw, maybe she can do better in a slam.

Since this is in Brasil, I can't help but wonder if she can really manage to hold on until 2016.

it was sad to see Venus struggling like this but respect to her for not taking an MTO or retiring, old fashioned values that are going to be lost soon.

The only way to get endurance is to push yourself to the limit.

After a rest, she may be able to go 1 match further.

So upset about this result, you fought hard Vee. Does anyone know of the Sjogren was affecting her today?

It's a new art form showing people how little we care.

Venus could hardly move in 3rd set I couldn't bear to see it!

Congrats to Olga and big respect to her for the way she celebrated her win - she didn't celebrate, she just walked up to Venus and shook her hand.

Now that's real classy .... unlike players who scream and celebrate like mad in the opening rounds of a tournament.

Please try and win tomorrow Olga.
