Sarcastic comments about topics that continue to come up are also superoriginal and clever. Never seen this done before.

Hitting 7 winners and winning a match like Sara did isn't unheard of, Aga and Caro have done it too against similar players. I didn't see the match, but with knowledge of the err... type of player Julia is, plus having seen her stats (roughly 50 winners, 70 errors) it isn't unreasonable to think Sara just wasn't able to fully set up her points before Jules brainlessly blasted a winner or error out of nowhere

Re: Is Errani The Worst Top Ten Player Ever?

It is hard to hit a winner if the player on the other side races you to hit an error first... I really don't know if that was the case here; have not seen the match, but some people should start realizing that there are two parties playing tennis and they stand on opposite sides of the net both contributing to the result.

The best of luck to all tennis players; The game is on!

P.S.Well,... special luck to Agnieszka Radwanska, Marta Domachowska, Daniela Hantuchova, Urszula Radwanska

Re: Is Errani The Worst Top Ten Player Ever?

The usual case of people confusing "the least popular at TF" with "the worst." Logically speaking the "worst" top ten player in history (and worst and top 10 are words that don't go together at all) has to be someone with a career high ranking of ten. Errani is comfortably top 10, not narrowly. People may not like it (and I'm not an errani fan myself), but that's their problem. You're a top 10 player based on your results, not on whether you get the seal of approval from TF.

Let me get this right. Are you saying it is better to lose a set hitting 20 winners than win a set hitting 0 winners? Interesting. I guess you must have been really impressed with Goerges's performance today then.

Remember Barbara Paulus, Karina Habsudova ......

At least on clay Errani is a competetive opponent

This may sound stupid, but I don't really consider players that just brush the 10th position a "Top 10 Player" even though they fit the description. When I think of "Top 10 Players" my mind doesn't go straight to Penetta. I think the idea of this thread is, amongst players who had solid moments in the top 10 and beyond, who is the worst? Whether or not it is Errani, I think it's silly to look at players who just touched 10th place when discussing this topic.

Though you have every right to do so.

Re: Is Errani The Worst Top Ten Player Ever?

You don't get to a Grand Slam final if your crap.

Errani is only 5ft5 as everyone knows, she isn't going to serve powerful, she isn't going to hit 20-30 winners. It's all about the spin and mixed play where she's concerned, all these spins she puts on the ball, might be so difficult for some players to read, she makes players play that extra shot which can prove difficult for opponents as well, while when she hits successful drop shots, in my opinion they are a joy to watch.

Let's see what the Clay Court season brings, she might have another good Clay Court season, and get to another Roland Garros final

Re: Is Errani The Worst Top Ten Player Ever?

Stupid question. Every player has her own game style, and Sara's game doesn't require her to thump a winner every second point in order to win matches. She does what she does a hell of a lot better than most of her peers.

I don't recall saying that or even implying it.

I think the thing that people on TF don't like about players like Errani, is that it seems like she doesn't control her own destiny. Her opponent plays poorly, Errani wins the set. Her opponent plays well, Errani loses the set. (Based on the top 25 players or so, this doesn't apply to lower ranked players as Errani tends to take charge of those matches)

It's just that Errani seems to play consistently at (I'll make up numbers for examples sake, don't take them so seriously) around 6/10. While other players fluctuate between 3-9. So Errani does well to win matches when others are playing poorly, which happens frequently, it's just not as exciting for me to see Errani win her match vs Georges like that, vs had Georges won by playing well.

That's just my opinion, I don't discredit Errani's wins, it just isn't exciting for me. Though I understand how others enjoy it. Different strokes.
