1) If the answer to the question is yes do NOT name said player
2) Do NOT speculate or start fights with posters who do answer yes to the question.
3) No Trolling!
Now the admin is out of the way, why do you enjoy watching certain players fail? Do you prefer them always coming up short in tight matches, or do you prefer total annihilation?
I'm just interested in the psychology behind sport fans and I wondered if anyone would care to admit and explain the schadenfreude effect they feel towards certain players.
Yes, but only because I feel like I get second-hand frustration when watching other people play her. It pisses me off when nobody rises to the occasion and beats her.
I use to although there are some rabid fans like madmax who make it so easy, but it's pointless when you really think about it.. I mean, the player is still getting paid for their effort
Nice to see that most of the posters don't mention the names of the players to prevent the hate. Obviously I do wish for some players to lose sometimes but it's mostly when they're playing my faves.
Yes, pretty much the entire WTA minus my faves.
The general rule is that minus my faves I always want the higher rank player to lose.
Always going against a boom boom style player. Power tennis must die and technical tennis must win!
Oh, and to debunk one of the previous posters: anything French!
In general NO. Especially if specific player already lost enough. I may enjoy ones loss once in a while, but if that happens it is not in most cases because of the player. In most cases I enjoy an egg in the face of some arrogant fans of that player.
For a long time, it was Hingis and Henin. Hingis mostly because of how she carried herself in the late 90's and early 2000's, and Henin for just being so successful in 2004, 2006, and 2007. I had the same issue with Federer as well: "Come on, let someone else win for a change". But when both retired, I found that I did miss them and that their games were so unique.
Now, there's no one I hope to just lose outright. I want competitive tennis, and whoever wins wins.
Only one player. If you've seen her play this season, you can figure this person out by my signature.
She might be a nice person outside of tennis, but since her life is mainly tennis, her play style, her attitude on court, her and her family's antics make me want her to lose every single match.
Thankfully no. A - I haven't been that petty since HS and B - I respect all the players. Even the few whose personas I'm not crazy about I respect for making it to the top 100 of their chosen field.
