Best RoS of Tour

Some people said Zheng had it
Somebody think Serena has it now, somebody Hsieh.
I guess Na Li's RoS one of best.

Re: Best RoS of Tour

According to 2013 statistics so far Sharapova has the highest percentage of points won returning 1st serve (50%) while Azarenka leads the list for points won returning 2nd serve (73%)

Serena and Kvitova on their best day.

Sharapova and Azarenka on the average day.

Hsieh had the best RoS relative to her ranking one year ago. Against the much better servers her RoS is rather average.

Zheng has an incredible RoS reaction time, allowing her to attack kick serve's despite her shortness. She can soften the serve of some serve-based players rather well (Stosur, Petrova, S.Williams), but that is not nearly enough ...

S.Williams has an incredible court presence, making it almost impossible for any server to keep calm. She mercilessly punishes week serves, but her RoS against good serves are not extraordinary. They were, however, much more consistent than those of brainless ballbashers with similar power on their RoS.

Li had a typical BBB RoS. She made quite a few good RoS winners because of her agility and the high tension strings, but she usually UEs at least twice as many, and against 2nd serves too. She was about the worst returner in the top 30 in recent years.

Last year, Azarenka had the best RoS. Deep, consistent, perfectly opening the rallies for her. And she did it against almost all kinds of serves.

Not even on her best day. On her best days she doesn´t get broken.

Re: Best RoS of Tour

Statistics rather good thing, but depends on who met the player.

Na have best RoS as part of her gameplay, not as quantity of winners. With the pace of her returns gets good advantage. Reminds me Djokovic by this.

Re: Best RoS of Tour

Azarenka absorbs pace beautifully and gets into a good rally position with virtually no risk. She's the most effective day in, day out.

On their good days, Serena and Sharapova are an entirely different monster to deal with.

Sharapova's ROS against Li was an abomination, however.

Re: Best RoS of Tour

IMO S.Williams then probably Azarenka. I think Williams ROS gets overlooked because her serving is so many parsecs better than any other player. But the fact is that she's usually breaking the other's serve multiple times. In part, that's because they feel more pressured to hold but even more than that it's because her ROS often immediately puts them on the defensive.

Re: Best RoS of Tour

Serena's, Maria's and to a less extent Kvitova's are all best when punishing weak serves. Vika's seems the best to me though, because she really deals with great serves very well.

Re: Best RoS of Tour

Jankovic used to have the best return on tour. Right now, I'd have to go with Azarenka.
