Completely Subjective Grand Slam Rankings For 2002

This is my own little formula (since I'm bored, and you won't care anyway)....
DNP=0, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3, R4=4, QF=5, SF=6, RU=7, WIN=8
  • Serena 0+8+8+8=24
    Venus 5+7+7+7=26
    Jennifer 8+6+5+5=24
    Kim 6+3+2+4=15
    Amelie 5+4+6+6=21
    Justine 5+1+6+4=16
    Monica 6+5+5+5=21
    Daniela 3+4+5+5=19
    Jelena 0+5+4+2=11
    Martina 7+0+0+4=11

Therefore, as far as consistency in the Slams:

  • 1. Venus
    2. Serena
    tie.Jennifer
    4. Monica
    tie. Amelie
    6. Daniela
    7. Kim
    8. Justine
    9. Martina
    tie. Jelena

This is just the top 10 right? Because I can think of one player that is above Hingis and Dokic (Maleeva - 12)

i think that winning a slam should be worth 10 points so jen and venus would be tied for #2...and as it should be serena #1

Thanks, its interesting - but only equates to total matches played in grand slams. theres no doubt that, had she been fit, Serena would be top of this list too.

I dont even want to think about where my poor Arantxa would be

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

Such a genius

Obviously your format is flawed. You sould total each players numbers from 0-8 for each slam. Then to determine her actual rank, as long as the player has played at least half of the slams to determine consistency, you would then divide that players total by the numer of slams she played. Serena's 24 divided by 3 = 8. Venus' 26 divided by 4 is 6.5.

Any two players how have the same total score whetehr 26 or 6.5 as in Venus or Jennifer, you would then determine who had had the higher number of top scores. Three 7's would beat a couple of 5's and a 6. That is how you would break the tie.

I think any ranking system based on GS slam performance in 2002 would be hard pressed to rank Venus above Jennifer. A win is at all times better than three finals appearances IMO.

And any ranking system that puts a three time Grand Slam runner up ahead of a three time GS Champion is fundamentally flawed.

A win is surely worth more than 1 point more than a runners-up finish. In terms of significance it is surely miles ahead.

Oh, now here is something worth getting offended about.

Seles was clearly doing this to someway express his bias against certain players, and piss you guys off.
