Re: What made Azarenka successful?

Incredible consistent depth on her groundstrokes. She doesn´t need the raw power of others to dictate play, because she takes the ball so early that combined with her depth she gradually wears down opponents physically and mentally.

Mouratoglu said "Many can play with Azarenka for five or six games. Then you start to wear down. You get frustrated that it just won´t stop. You are still being pressured by the consistent depth. You are running, trying to get your feet right, get your shots right, to maintain your level and that all comes naturally to Azarenka. She can do it longer."

Serena avoids half of the grind and rallies, because she just hits service winners. Sure she can outhit Azarenka from the baseline better than anyone, but when she is not at her best at age 31, she still has the luxury to just skip half the rallies due to her incredible (annoying ) serve.

- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a reigning world #1.
- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a top 5 player at a major.
- Caroline Wozniacki has not beaten a top 3 player en route to any of her 23 titles.
- Caroline Wozniacki has beaten two top 5 players en route to her 23 titles (#4 Zvonareva and #5 Schiavone)

-Her fans think she had very bad luck with her Grand Slam and Regular Tour draws.

Re: What made Azarenka successful?

I think she's getting to that point of her career where she knows she can win matches even if she's not playing her best, that is HUGE for her confidence and unlike other players from her generation she is taking tennis 100% and IMO she's the most determinated player on tour...

Jankovic | Goerges | Petkovic | Safarova | Hsieh | Tsurenko
Azarenka | Mitu | Voegele | Beck | Muguruza | Cibulkova
Koehler | Mladenovic | Garcia | Robson | Cepelova | Duval
Babos | Ormaechea | Jaksic | Gasparyan | Soylu
Allgurin | Kontaveit | Zacarias | Pigossi | Haddad Maia | Abduraimova
Konjuh | Bencic | Komardina | Haas | Jorovic | Galfi | Stollar

This! Mental is really important in women's game.

Balance. She has both offensive and defensive skills, also has variety, movement, power, consistency and mental strength. The other three all lack of a few of these respectively.

Re: What made Azarenka successful?

She changes the direction of the ball better than anyone since Legend. It's also amazing how deep she hits the ball on practically every groundstroke.

Yes, I also think her hair is a factor in her success. It's really an impressive sight, when she wears it out, Like an amazon woman.
