the hype before french 91.

do you think Monica loosing to Steffi has something to do with her being threatened and maybe just maybe she let Graf win the match. I know Steffi's record in Wimbledon but makes you wonder

I remember distinctly the Venus Serena semifinal in 1999, it was so hype, even though it is a semifinal, it is all over the paper, many press came to england suddenly to cover this story, we all knew that Serena suffered from a attack of nerve on that day, as she was impeccable the lsat 5 matches before succumbing to her sister

The Hingis/Venus Williams Quarterfinal at Roland garros 1998

Venus had been carving up the clay courts and had beaten Martina in three close sets to win the Italian Open. Venus was supposedly ready for a breakthrough but Martina gave her a claycourt lesson to cruise through to the semis in straight sets.

Venus/Serena 2001 Indian Wells Semis

I called off sick from work to stay home to watch on tv, and Venus pulled out leaving me high and dry.

The first Venus-Serena matchup, 2nd round Aus Open 1998. It was hyped a lot but they really didnt play well that day. No one knew how they would play since they hadnt met before, so that match was more disappointing. Their matches have improved since then though.

Yeah, any Williams match really. Cannot even watch them now as they are so rubbish - it's just not tennis!

Williams/Williams '01 US Open final. That's about as hyped as a womens match had ever gotten. The best way to describe the quality of the match is that it's the equivalent of some of the 1st round matches you watch at Grand Slam qualies where you shake your head and think "Man, this is just ugly." When Venus and Serena play anybody else, they look like #1 and #2. When they play eachother, they look like the #201 and #202 on a bad day. I swear if they played like that day in and day out they would never get anywhere near the top 150.
