I'm wondering if this issue with Rittner is motivating Mona to play her best and show Rittner the "middle finger" , saying "see what you are missing"

Out of interest was it Rittner's decision the choice of surfaces Germany chose in Fed Cup last year?

Nobody really knows. Some say it could have been Porsche's influence (they sponsor the team), others say it was her decision, others say it was due to the players wish to prepare for Stuttgart, and others say the DTB (German tennis federation) wanted to save costs.

Even if other factors were involved, really the Fed Cup captain should be standing strong. The fact Germany managed to mess up the surface in both Fed Cup ties is pretty unforgiveable.

Having said that, I also find it pretty strange France have chosen indoor clay as the surface vs Germany next week (or did they not know Bartoli would be leading the team in the tie, I would have thought these discussions have been going for months though).

Saw the first set but I find Bartoli unwatchable now. Her behaviour is Loony Tune and irritating. Glad Barthel won.

I think this was chosen in favor of Alize Cornet who might now not even play singles at all.

Barbara Rittner stated on facebook that Mona doesn't want to play because of the fact that the tie is on clay. She also says there's no problem between her and the team. Interesting.

I find that hard to believe when Mona says otherwise on-court. Obviously she is going to want to cover up any feud with her up and coming player.

Barthel on her website

"Unfortunately I have to announce that I won't participate in the upcoming Fed Cup tie. Of course I feel honoured having been chosen to play by Barbara Rittner and the decision was not easy for me. It goes without saying that it's a dream for me to play in the Fed Cup once. My decision might seem strange for "outsiders", however there were several personal reasons involved which I don't want to make public. I'm very happy that Barbara Rittner accepted my decision and I trust Sabine and the rest of the team 100%. All the best to the team, I will make sure to keep track on the results. Maybe it just wasn't the right time for my Fed Cup debut."

And Rittner comes up with clay being the reason?? That's just the perfect example who she tries to fool Tennis fans.

Re: Paris QF Barthel def Bartoli 7-6 6-4

It's an easy cover up to use. It will probably fool a lot of people who don't look any deeper than the surface. And as long as the general public believe it, Rittner will have achieved her aim.
