It's bizarre that the ATP is going from strength to strength while the WTA isn't. The ATP's end of year tournament is a massive success. The WTA management team surely can learn some lessons?

This is so embarrassing for the WTA. People are actually going out of their way to dissociate themselves. Someone fire Stacey already.

WTA must learn, how to build a brand and their business.

Sometimes an audience and a following (like they could have done in Istanbul or any place similar), is a better long term solution than just taking the quick money from a new tournament where no one will show up and you won't gain new fans or build your brand in the future.

Visibility and impact can count in the long term, than fast, upfront money.

Stacy, will figure this out, after she's fired, and she watches someone finally excel.

It seems every WTA's CEO is a moron, they can't catch a break.

Yup. You'd've thought they'd have learnt by NOW that chasing the biggest short-term pay cheque is a terrible strategy Having people watch an event like the ATP London finals, where the crowds are full and fully-engaged, is much better for the long-term health of the sport, even if they're not lining the ATP/WTA players/CEOs' pockets as much in the short term as places like Dubai and Doha are.

If Russia did want YEC they wouldn't pick Kazan maybe Moscow, St Petersburg or Sochi not Kazan.

Agree wholeheartedly with the last four posts. Also, if Russia really wanted it, they would have got it. At the very least, they wouldn't be the first to be eliminated.

You know nothing about Russia, right?
Quite the contrary, nominating Kazan meant they were a bit serious (though not so much, I suppose). Nobody needs another sport event in Moscow or St. Petersburg, these cities are too expensive, have a lot of traffic problems and they are choke-full of different events, hence empty stands on Kremlin Cup and St Petersburg open.

Sochi is overwhelmed with all this Olympics thing, (I just cannot imagine their future hangover, after all this shit finally finished).

Kazan is so-called "sports capital of Russia", it's soccer, ice hockey, basketball, volleyball, water polo and rugby teams - multiple national champions. Now they want to become "tennis capital" as well.

YES

empty stands mean nothing , because these events are too local for big cities with just a few well known players participating in

for instance I'm absolutely sure that for Fifa World Cup will be almost impossible to buy tickets

Sharapova could help Russia get YEC using her "star" power but she's american with russian passport and makes americans happy and fat with her candies xD

I think there is a little bit of Russian machismo going on with Tarpischev.

Saying "it was accidental, we don't want it - we've got Kremlin cup" sounds like "we don't need stealth aircraft - we've got thermonuclear ICBMs".
