Li Na!

Not even a question tbh.

It's a new art form showing people how little we care.

Give me a break. Like it or lump it, Stosur did one thing that neither of those listed women could do and that was to take it to the best player of the generation in a major F - becoming only one of three women to do so. That alone solidifies her status as a slam champ. I'm sorry if that's too much to handle for others.

For the record, my vote goes to Li in this particular poll.

Serena was coming out of injury and you KNOW it. Bring Stosur back on Arthur Ashe with Serena now and she would be DEMOLISHED.

She's lucky she got the slam, so damn lucky. Serena gifted her that slam.

can we please stop this bullshit? it's so tiresome. stosur has a slam, and nobody can take that away from her (as hard as they might try listening to some trolls on this board).

Serena had just won Stanford and Toronto (beating Stosur in the F...). She was the USO series winner. Please take the injury excuse elsewhere because it is not valid on this occasion.

Major finals are not gifted. Sam played an incredible match and she earned that trophy.

Re: Who is greater,Li Na or Samantha Stosur?

I love Sam but I'm a fan of Na as well, so if she finishes her career with better stats than Sam I'm fine with that. But the timing of this poll is skewing the view, in two respects.

First of all, given the legendary attention span of the average TF poster, when a "who is greater?" poll is held directly after a slam in which one of the two reached the final and the other lost in R2 you can pretty much pencil in the results without bothering to ask. If the poll had been held six months ago it would have been much closer, and Sam may well have won.

Secondly, and more important, when Na was the same age as Sam is now, her record was distinctly less impressive than Sam's current record, even though Sam effectively lost a year due to Lyme's disease.

I'll be the first to admit that there is no guarantee that Sam will match Na's accomplishments from this point forward, but it's also not obvious that she won't. She's fit enough to play for another 4 or 5 years, and is a legitimate contender for both RG and the USO for the next couple of years at least.

Na could easily add to her slam tally as well of course, but that really just confirms my point: it's too early to say what either player's legacy will be, so the comparison is premature.

Re: Who is greater,Li Na or Samantha Stosur?

I think Li Na will be remembered by more people after they retire. (Okay, even if you exclude the 1 billion+ Chinese )

Sam's GS came over the legendary Serena though.

It's close.
