She's young. She can improve! OP is basically trying to set Sloane up to get bash in this thread. I don't know why people even fell for it. Smh!

Serena - 22 Grand Slam Titles -- 71 Singles Titles -- World Rank: #1 | 2016 Record - (31-4) 89%
Venus - 7 Grand Slam Titles -- 49 Singles Titles -- World Rank: #6 | 2016 Record - (21-9) 70%

I take that bet. I like Stephens as a promising tennis player, she's me 2nd favourite US player after Hampton, but top 10 after FO (2013!), no way. She will be busy defending her many clay points, I don't see how she can add another 2000 points on that.

He's into masochism

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Every black player does not need to be compared to Serena. They don't even play alike.

Not even close. She hasn't even had a big win in her career yet, besides Cibulkova which is nothing to brag about.

Serena # 1

Re: Sloane Stephens:the new Serena?

Stephens has some inertia cancelling redirecting Serena-like shots. They made the difference against Robson IMO. But I don't see Stephens becoming a future dominant in exactly the same way as Serena. She will need a little more off the mark variety.

Re: Sloane Stephens:the new Serena?

To me this is a thread steeped in a racist viewpoint. The *only* reason Stephens is being likened to Williams is because they're both African-American women. That type of "ignore the individual" comparison is an insult to both women.

There is only one Serena Williams. Sloane Stephens is the new Sloane Stephens.

Re: Sloane Stephens:the new Serena?

I think Sloane is on the right track BUT she has a long way to go. This is an important step in Sloane's career though to reach a grand slam quarterfinal. It is definitely seems Sloane is on the right track in her career.

I don't think the OP is being racist at all.I think there is indeed excitement that there is a new black girl in tennis who is showing she might have big potential. There were other black girls before Sloane like Jamea Jackson, Shenay Perry, Angela Hayes but those ladies never had the kind of success Sloane is having.

Re: Sloane Stephens:the new Serena?

So EVERY African American female tennis player is the "New Serena/Venus"

Positive discrimination at it's best.

It's a new art form showing people how little we care.

So simply associating Sloane, and African American woman, with Serena, another African American woman, is a racist viewpoint? How so?

Re: Sloane Stephens:the new Serena?

I don't think she's the next Serena, but with continued development in her game, she can certainly be a fixture in the top 10.
