Because she's got MILLIONS already socked away, so why keep putting up with the travel, the media and all the hub bub, especially at tournaments where is SUPPOSED to win and gets bounced out. At some point, her inner self will say "Why am I still doing this?"

Re: Will Caroline Wozniacki retire early?

I don't see her retiring soon UNLESS she'd be heading out of the top 30.

While it may be true her goal has always been to make $$$$, I think she's always loved the sport. Otherwise, how could she have got to the No.1 position if she didn't *truly* want it?

She should keep playing as long as she's inside the Top 30, at least. If she slips further from that, the media will haunt her down if she had to play Qualies at some tournaments, for example.

I think she still has the game to be in the top 20 (I mean, considering how many inconsistent Brainless Ball-Bashers have made the Top 30, there's no reason why Caro can't be there just by being a consistent pusher). I don't think she's coming back to the top ten though. She'd need to upgrade her game, and we can see that is not happening. She should've dumped Papa a long time ago, and now it's probably too late. Once a player reaches a certain age, there's no room for BIG improvements.

The thing is, she hasn't even tried small improvements with him. For example, being a natural defender, I always thought a slice BH would come in handy for her (to add more variety to her game). It may be necessary to go for your shots if you want a Slam, but it isn't necessary to be agressive for her to be back in the top ten. If she focused on being a better PUSHER, she could hang in the top ten for a long time. Look at Errani right now. Or look at Sanchez-Vicario, who managed to stay Top 5 and winning Slams (mainly) being a consistent defender with a variety of weapons.

Whether Caro's willing to make the change is up to her. I think this will show her true commitment to the game. If she's a champion, then she's not going to give up.

Or the fact that defensive players (especially as defensive and technically limited as Wozniacki, hell she can´t volley or slice above challenger tour level) don´t/rarely win majors. Wozniacki knew exactly one way to play: defensive against flat powerful hitting without any variety and drawing quick erros from impatient players. She simply cannot handle topspin at all. Do her fans need more proof than the backhand cripples Görges and Ivanovic successfully using the tactic: Moonball bh cc, moonball bh cc, moonball bh cc, short ball Wozniacki from far behind the baseline, run around your forehand, and hit winner. That´s all they had to do.

She'll still have a modicum of fame as a "Former world #1" and as a WAG, so no doubt she'll still have a notable amount of endorsements coming in over the next few years, even if she continues as a top 20 also-ran.

She was the most fraudulant "top player" that we have ever seen, and even she must have realised that her level of success compared to her actual amout of talent was severely inflated, and unsustainable in the long run.

Her window to win a GS has well and truly closed, and I think that we should all be thanking our lucky stars that the WTA reign of terror has come to a close with a severe bang.

Now this scene will never be the same, because I will always think about Caroline. One wonders if Kristen Wig was making a reference to Wozniacki lol.

Re: Will Caroline Wozniacki retire early?

Early yes? Within the next 2-3 years? No. She can still stick around. She won't progress unless she makes major enhancements and improvements to her game. You can only fall so far till you pick yourself back up and either walk away or push yourself to get back to the top. I think she will hit rock bottom and try to get better. That time will be to late and she will be out of here before Rio. And to me that is early.

Y'all are always trying to kill off people's careers.

The season has barely fucking started.

I don't think the majority of people are considering the 2013 season as much as they are considering her past 12 month results. But unfortunately she has entered two tournaments in 2013 and has only won one match....

Every player has had at least one slump year. We try to assess things way too prematurely.

Re: Will Caroline Wozniacki retire early?

I don't think the loss to the Kuz is that bad, after all the Kuz came through qualifying in multiple come from behind wins, which means she's not a mess mentally.

She's still making a ton of money and traveling the world in style. If the joke's on anyone, folks, it's on us, not her.

This is true. But the beginning of the year is people's
Opportunity to see what was worked on, fixed or changed. So you will see people expressing opinions more and judging more at the beginning of the year. And premature IMO would be CW losing her number 1 ranking and saying she is done. Plenty of people did that. To which I disagreed and still do. Even though it has somewhat come true you still never know. She is at a place right now where something has to change. To me, There is nothing premature to decide in CW's Career this point.
