Re: Will Caroline Wozniacki retire early?
I don't see her retiring soon UNLESS she'd be heading out of the top 30.
While it may be true her goal has always been to make $$$$, I think she's always loved the sport. Otherwise, how could she have got to the No.1 position if she didn't *truly* want it?
She should keep playing as long as she's inside the Top 30, at least. If she slips further from that, the media will haunt her down if she had to play Qualies at some tournaments, for example.
I think she still has the game to be in the top 20 (I mean, considering how many inconsistent Brainless Ball-Bashers have made the Top 30, there's no reason why Caro can't be there just by being a consistent pusher). I don't think she's coming back to the top ten though. She'd need to upgrade her game, and we can see that is not happening. She should've dumped Papa a long time ago, and now it's probably too late. Once a player reaches a certain age, there's no room for BIG improvements.
The thing is, she hasn't even tried small improvements with him. For example, being a natural defender, I always thought a slice BH would come in handy for her (to add more variety to her game). It may be necessary to go for your shots if you want a Slam, but it isn't necessary to be agressive for her to be back in the top ten. If she focused on being a better PUSHER, she could hang in the top ten for a long time. Look at Errani right now. Or look at Sanchez-Vicario, who managed to stay Top 5 and winning Slams (mainly) being a consistent defender with a variety of weapons.
Whether Caro's willing to make the change is up to her. I think this will show her true commitment to the game. If she's a champion, then she's not going to give up.
