Look at Julia making the final at Linz and look at where she stacks up in the new season. It means very little, the way Caro has played this year shows nothing to be encouraged about, it's every bit as bad as during 2012 (the full year, not the last few weeks). She makes way too many errors and she's incredibly weak mentally.
I agree.I think people got false hope when she won those fall tournaments. I mean she lost to Petrova so it's not like it ended on a high note. There is lots of work to do.

So many things wrong with this post, for starters you calling Moscow a big tournament you probs still live in 2006 when Sveta was also relevant.

The reality is Caro snuck a top 10 place at the end of the year by playing the MM championships that no one cares about. She today lost to a Sveta who has been taken to 3 sets this week by the likes of foretz gacon and lost to Kiki last week. Caro is going nowhere bar backwards and is about as relevant now as Hantuchova is.

PREACH IT. Pushniacki is on a NEVER ENDING DOWNWARD SPIRAL. she WILL never climb out of that hole.

NID.

...well ok, I lie, everything is always in doubt with Kuznetsova, but in all seriousness there was no reason for her not to win this match -- Woz has never been technically a bad match-up for her, she's actually always tended to play defensive players quite well - those two US Open matches were simply because she was playing MentalGOAT Wozniacki, which she is far from now. I don't expect her to go any further this week tbh, because 5 matches in this brutal heat is obviously going to take it's toll, but a great week nonetheless.

Even though Sveta was mediocre at best in terms of her game this match, the most encouraging thing is that mentally she was more focussed and dogged than she has been for the most from 2010 onwards -- there were countless opportunities for her to throw in the towel in this match, but she uncharacteristically kept digging her heels in. Definitely one the top players will want to avoid in the first couple of rounds in Melbourne.

In general I would agree. Same stuff happened with Na Li and Kvitova during the US Open series. Sharapova, Azarenka and Serena didn´t play any event (seriously). Radwanska, Errani and Kerber were exhausted from their success throughout the season. So those two simply took advantage of the situation, being fresh and desperate for some success. You need to judge the level of opposition and play with your own eyes and nobody saw much of Korea. Petrova had little trouble with her.

I still think the direction is the correct one. Her old defensive game is not even as strong as Radwanska, because she hits higher, shorter, can´t volley, can´t slice. That was simply not sustainable. it´s just a question of whether she can make the more aggressive style work technically and mentally.

I am not a fan of the direction a lot of Maria threads have taken over the last 12 months.
The undertone is very disappointing, aggressive and the comments are sometimes rude to a player just trying to earn a living, playing her hardest and having a good amount of success given her god given, natural talents.
You made the list: NEW President Bouchard, Cibulkova, Mladenovic, Wozniacki, Kerber, Cornet, Watson, Broady.
Please note this is a signature about Tatjana Maria

Yay!! Watched a repeat of the third set this afternoon..Sveta wasn't playing as well as she can, but her serve was powerful, and Caro was pretty awful tbh. So happy she won this!

I can't see her beating Kerber, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Karma bitch! About time Woz got send packing. At least she'll make it to do another shot with Gollum at the top of some skyscrapers in Melbourne.

wasn't it irrelevant Sveta , who demolished that mug at RG who is still boasting about being few points away from #1 last year?
There is nothing shameful in losing to a more talented and accomplished player like Sexlana is. That loss to Pervak was definitely new lows, but not this one.

I'm so happy for Svetlana! Finally a win over Wozniacki after two terrible chokes at the USO. She needs points to get her ranking up again! I don't think she'll be able to trouble Kerber after spending so many hours on the court. Hopefully she'll have a good draw in Melbourne!

I agree with this coldheartedly. This is not even funny anymore. This is just as bad as Hantuchova, Stosur and Franny. These girls seriously have so much work to do to get back into their form. Im very surprised that Caro didnt train alot like she usually. I mean tbh i dunno what to say but i hope that she can find a way to get back into her form that she had.
