I'd like to know too.

It's a new art form showing people how little we care.

I read on this forum that all she has to do is reach the Semi-finals at the AO to automatically be #1

Going into AO, I think Serena will have about 700 points over Maria and 1000 over Vika

So if Maria makes the final, Serena has to as well to be No.1

If Maria does not make the final, a SF would be enough for Serena.

I think if Sharapova or Azarenka don't win, it should be enough.

Edit: Or will Azarenka lose 470 points next week?

I think regardless of who wins if Serena makes the finals she's number one...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: How many points closer is Serena to the No 1 ranking now?

I think these are the numbers with Sydney points off and 5 each for starting AO:

S Williams 9475
Sharapova 8650 (825 behind Serena)
Azarenka 8330 (1145 behind Serena)

with 2000 for win, 1400 for final and 900 for SF

Last year it was also a three way race with the final determining the outcome. Ironically we have 2/3 players from last year, just switch Kivitova w.Rena. That just makes an already exciting slam, that much more exciting. I love when the stakes are higher and historically that brings out the best in Rena.

We pretty much know she will touch number one some point this year, but it would be extra special for her to get it back by winning her 16th slam and becoming the oldest number one of all time!

Re: How many points closer is Serena to the No 1 ranking now?

If Serena reaches the Semis Azarenka will surely lose her number 1 ranking, Serena has to reach the finals to assure that she becomes the world no. 1.

Re: How many points closer is Serena to the No 1 ranking now?

SHarapova and Vika have a lot of points to defend what is Serena defending 3rd round at AO?

Queen Vee, Super Rena, Krazy Kuzzie
