What changes on your fave/others game would you suggest as their coach?

people here seem to know so well the flaws in everyone's games, so i was wondering, in a more technical view, what would you try to implement as a coach if training certain players?
for example, we all know azarenka lacks a great serve, so as her coach, how would you aproach that issue?

ill start by saying that as venus coach, id suggest her to stand back a little when returning serve

ps: replies such as "id tell her to get a forehand" are pointless, if not followed by some perspective on how to achieve that (hitting flatter? adding spin? changing the mechanics?) lets keep the trolling away

I'd tell Ana to gain some weight to hopefully increase power in her shots. The FH is still big, but not as big since she lost all that weight .

I would actually completely rework Maria's serve. There should be a lot more wrist in it, try and make it so that it's the same toss for each serve. A woman of her height could have such a better serve. I really don't get why virtually every female player is happy to have a make-do or just downright awful service motion.

Get her to come into the net and hit legitimate swinging volleys again.

I'd start with Maria's mental game. Just jumping out from around corners with big posters of Serena constantly should do the trick. Girl needs to stop being such a mental midget against her

To 90 percent of WTA:

- Get a better forehand, learn to hit with spin.

- Get rid of that ugly service motion.

- Learn to volley!

- Stop sucking!!!!

So I think the question is: What can Maria improve/add in her game to be competitive against Serena/beat her?

As, IMHO, even when Maria is hitting the ball well and really trying, Serena can still out-match her. Look at this years YEC, there was such a descrepancy between Maria's and Serena's effort levels.

Serena

- to move her feet for more than 3 matches in a calendar year.

- Hit through her backhand consistently, and not get prone to passively placing it CC.

Venus:

1. Stand back with the ROS. She needs to learn that her ROS isn't that good (and her reaction isn't so quick) for her to be standing so far in, and dumping the ball into the net/beyond the baseline/mis-hitting. She does that, gifts free points to her opponent (making it easier for them to hold), and then buckles under the pressure of her own serve.

2. Learn to hit behind opponents and not just blast the ball in the open court; happened so many times against players like Clijsters, Jankovic, and more recently Kerber. They are used to it, and so is Venus it seems.

3. Be clever and study the weaknesses in your opponents game i.e. don't be too stubborn into thinking that your game is good enough to implement and win. It's not.

If she had the big serve someone her size should, she'd stand a chance methinks.

Without that huge asset she's hopeless I'm afraid.

I think she needs Serena to come down a few pegs.

Re: What changes on your fave/others game would you suggest as their coach?

Chakvetadze -

1) mental - stop being a nutter and calm the **** down; a lot. This might take time.

2) volleys - with better putaways she'd win a ton more easy points that instead end up being a shitfest of needing 3 attempts to get the job done or flubbing into the net. (In fairness to Anna I think this is partly a confidence issue, her putaways used to be way more secure.)

3) topspin - when not in a super-accurate state of mind, please use some more spin and stop trying to hit ridiculously flat shots when playing badly; it never ends well.

4) footwork - some sort of Daddy Bartoli type evil regime to get her footwork back out of lazy "vaguely near the ball" mode.

5) dropshots - banned entirely, and made a fining offence.

6) more mental - it would need some more, for sure.

Incidentally, I would never have tried to tell Anastasia anything... because I'd have been quite frightened to do so. True story!

* Anna Chakvetadze * Anastasia Myskina *

Re: What changes on your fave/others game would you suggest as their coach?

Serena: Come to net more, especially on quick surfaces. I was surprised, with her serve, that she didn't come forward more at Wimbledon.

Azarenka: Do something with your serve. Anything. Other than that she's a pretty complete player. Maybe flatten out the forehand a bit more, too.

Sharapova: Come forward and (drive) volley more. Considering the depth on her strokes, she could use the drop shot a lot more as well. The serve is improving nicely so I won't go there.

Wozniacki: Start using a racket that gives her more weight of shot. The Yonex worked great because she was truly getting the most out of her forehand. It wasn't a huge shot, but it was deep and heavy enough where it was difficult for her opponents to attack.

Other than that most players are either being too impatient or too passive. The right balance of aggression and patience is rare on the WTA these days.

More aces from the second serve
All her game moved 0,5-1 m. ahead
You guessed it right - that's for HER
