Being so dominant en route to the final and end up losing it must be a record as well. lol

Even as someone who isn't a particularly big fan of her, that final hurts

Arantxa was lucky it rained during that final and the clay was incredibly slow

I'm so impressed the way she gave those beatdowns on clay. She must have been in really great form. It's understandable when someone did in on grass but on clay? Such amazing results.

Exclamation Re: Peak Pierce in 1994 Roland Garros

I remember the French press calling her victories "à la Lenglen", another queen of bagels and breadsticks...

But that final loss was coitus interruptus... Even more losing to ASV. She was destined to "balayer" her off the court and then...

Congrats Garbiñe on your first Slam !!!

Such dominance consistent beat downs like that are just phenomenal, especially on clay. Shame the final never really happened...

ASV>Nervous Pierce in first French Open final

He looked deep into his eyes and said, "You're perfect."

"No, I'm not. But with you, I don't even care."

Re: Peak Pierce in 1994 Roland Garros

Poor Pierce, she should have erased Sanchez-Vicario from the face of the planet Thank God she won it in the end

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Re: Peak Pierce in 1994 Roland Garros

Fortunately, Pierce revenged that loss by annihilating ASV in the AO final one year later.
