Peak Pierce showed up on clay again, albeit not at a Slam. Her run in Charleston 2000 was ridiculous.

FUCK YOU, SEWTA.

SF W Steffi Graf 6-2 6-2
F L Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario 6-4 6-4
Other than an out of form Graf, no difficult opponents until the final. McNeil sucks on clay, and Coetzer in 94 was a nobody.

I would have given a lot to have her win the 94 final and lose the 2000 one

Conchita MARTINEZ-Mary PIERCE-Lindsay DAVENPORT-Martina HINGIS-Serena WILLIAMS- and new legend Monica PUIG
Kata Srebotnik - Anabel Medina-Garrigues - Arantxa Parra-Santonja
Garbińe Muguruza- Caroline Garcia- Polona Hercog- Kimiko DK - Eleni Daniilidou ...

Pity she didn't win the title. In a way Stosur was the same at the 2010 French. She didn't lose so few games of course, but she overcame Henin-Serena-Jankovic...then lost to Schiavone .

Me too, would have loved to see Conchita win a French, and sucks that Sanchez vulture could ever have 3 French Opens, no way she deserves that many.

I would rather ASV lose the 98 final instead of 94.

Sanchez-Vicario overachieved for someone as ugly as her

I mean her game, her game was ugly

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

ASV sure knew how to interrupt these dream runs, didn't she? Graf, Seles, Pierce, Serena... And all at the French Open too!

YES. It's unbelievable she has 3 RG titles, same as Monica. And none for Conchita.

Unbelievable? It's not like she randomly won those titles. She reached the semifinals 10 times there, played 6 finals. Won half of them. She was clearly at home in Roland Garros.

Pretty much this.

I would be the best ending if Monica had won that final after trashing then #1 Hingis in the SF.

Re: Peak Pierce in 1994 Roland Garros

I have nothing but respect for Arantxa despite the heartbreak in 98. As Steffica Greles put it she was "a warrior". To achieve what she did while contending with Graf AND Seles is amazing - what a mentality she had!

FUCK YOU, SEWTA.

Re: Peak Pierce in 1994 Roland Garros

Peak Pierce is so overrated. She couldn't even win the tournament against an opponent in the final with no real offensive weapons. Peak Pierce is good, but I'm sick of people acting like it was the most unbeatable tennis of all time.
