Do you consider the 2012 US Open final between Serena and Azarenka a classic?
I don't. In my opinion, it is easily overshadowed by Venus-Hingis 2000, Henin-Capriati 2003, Henin-Venus 2007, and Azarenka-Stosur 2012.
Also, Clijster's retirement at the US Open overshadows the final.
No. It was a match of errors on Serena's part, was it 45? It was just the biggest slump in Serena's game that I've seen for a while. I am just glad she won, I have no idea how she did it, but when it mattered most, suddenly her game came back to her and thanks God for that!
19 Grand Slams, 4 Olympic Gold Medals
Well it pretty much becomes classic by default because (1) it's historic in ending the unprecedented run of straight set US Open finals, i.e. it's a relative classic (2) and was a high-profile, competitive and long match which, however you view the quality, helps erase the memory of the Safina, Wozniacki late-slam car crashes.
(1)A lot is being made of the record Serena has vs Sharapova. It is being used as THE reason she will win again lol. Good thing we have players like Tomas Berdych (who had an even worse record vs Nadal) to remind us of the fallacy of this nonsense logic.
(2)You stans may as well sleep well tonight because tomorrow the a replay of Lucie's winning moment over and over again will haunt your dreams for weeks to come
(3)The stars have aligned perfectly for the upset of the 21st century. All the best Garbine
(4) There is no path to victory for Williams.Keys wins in straight easy sets.
