Was the 2012 US Open final a classic?

Do you consider the 2012 US Open final between Serena and Azarenka a classic?

I don't. In my opinion, it is easily overshadowed by Venus-Hingis 2000, Henin-Capriati 2003, Henin-Venus 2007, and Azarenka-Stosur 2012.
Also, Clijster's retirement at the US Open overshadows the final.

Your opinions?

I vote yes. And I am glad Serena won. She was at the edge of defeat, but relieved the power and won.

Not really IMO, Serena made way too many errors in that match.

2000 SF Venus vs. Hingis and 2003 SF Henin vs. Capriati were better IMO.

No. It was a match of errors on Serena's part, was it 45? It was just the biggest slump in Serena's game that I've seen for a while. I am just glad she won, I have no idea how she did it, but when it mattered most, suddenly her game came back to her and thanks God for that!

Not really, just another notch on Serena's belt.

Quality wise no, but the drama was there, so I'll say yes

Not really. It was a very close match but they both didn't play well enough at the same time for it to be considered a classic.

The only shot I can remember was a forehand down the line Azarenka made while splitting.

1)THIS!!!! Great shot making, often clutch but overall quality was may be 6 on a scale of 1-10 ...the suspense, back & forth flow in momentum makes for a thriller among many other finals .

2) It is tops in terms of grand slam finals this year and prolly the best at the USO since Serena/Jankovic 2008

Re: Was the 2012 US Open final a classic?

Well it pretty much becomes classic by default because (1) it's historic in ending the unprecedented run of straight set US Open finals, i.e. it's a relative classic (2) and was a high-profile, competitive and long match which, however you view the quality, helps erase the memory of the Safina, Wozniacki late-slam car crashes.

(2)You stans may as well sleep well tonight because tomorrow the a replay of Lucie's winning moment over and over again will haunt your dreams for weeks to come
(3)The stars have aligned perfectly for the upset of the 21st century. All the best Garbine
(4) There is no path to victory for Williams.Keys wins in straight easy sets.

Girl, shut up.

No, it was not. Maybe if Azarenka was actually a good player and did more in the match. It was all Serena and if she would stop hitting returns halfway into the net and poor UE long.

Azarenka did fuck all (as usual).

Azarenka is just a watered down Capriati with 70% less finishing power. Her jig is up.
