Serena

Failure: losing to Azarenka or Sharapova
Success: winning the whole thing without dropping a set (I see that happening)

Maria:
Success - Reaching SF or better. I too count finishing the season injury free as a success.
Failure - Depends on her group really.

Yuryevna,
Always

I have a simple definition. One success (the one holding the trophy) and seven failures (the others). Win or fail.

Azarenka: success = win, failure = missing the semis
Sharapova: success = win, failure = not going 3-0 in the RR
Williams: success = 5-0, failure = not winning
Radwanska: success = final, failure = not making the semis
Kvitova: success = semis, failure = 0-3 in the RR
Kerber: success = winning a match, failure = not winning a set
Errani: success = winning a match, failure = impossible
Li: success = winning a match, failure = impossible

Vika:
Success: Making it to the final to play Serena.
Failure: Not making it to the final.

Serena:
Success: Making it to the final to play Vika.
Failure: Not making it to the final.

The biggest obstacle to this happening is one of them losing to Petra in the SF.

After seeing groups:
Azarenka
Success: Winning.
Failure: Not making final.

Sharapova
Success: Winning.
Failure: Not making final.

Williams
Success: Winning.
Failure: Not winning tbh.

Radwanska
Success: Reaching SFs and putting up a good fight.
Failure: Not reaching SFs.

Kvitova
Success: Reaching SFs and putting up a good showing.
Failure: Not reaching SFs.

Kerber
Success: Winning a match in groups.
Failure: Not winning a set.

Errani
Success: Winning a match in groups.
Failure: Not winning a set. (Though this wouldn't be a failure in the broader scheme of things)

Li
Success: Giving competitive matches in the groups.
Failure: Not winning a match.
