British media treat Heather Watson differently than Laura Robson due to race.
I know a lot of people on this board want to be politically correct but it is obvious to me that Laura Robson is getting the lion share of media attention from the British press. Yes, Laura's done a bit better on the WTA tour reaching the US Open fourth round and the final in China.
However, Laura isn't even British born she was born in Australia to Australian parents. Robson is a passport Brit, while Watson actually is British born but since she's MIXED RACE she won't get much media coverage.
Some people in the UK don't consider Watson a real Brit because she's not white. And if you don't think the UK doesn't have race relations problems you obviously haven't been paying attention. Groups like the EDL won't consider Watson a real Brit.
Meanwhile, Heather actually is British born but her mother is from Papua New Guinea is MIXED RACE. I notice there is hardly any coverage of Heather Watson's mother.
So, even though Heather won the first WTA title by a British woman in 24 years expect the British press to focus more on Laura Robson because she's WHITE.
