Re: Peak Venus would destroy Peak Serenka in straight sets

Venus's swinging volleys would do the most. Serena's peak net game is only as high as peak Pierce. But we all know Peak Venus net game peaks higher than the peak of peak Pierce. Venus would pin Serena to the backcourt while Serena would defend like a oversized bull cow on ice.

Re: Peak Venus would destroy Peak Serenka in straight sets

As a Venus fan, it hurts me to post this.

If Peak VEnus plays Peak Serena, Peak Serena wins seven times out of ten.

One reason. Second serve.

Peak Venus would NEVER be facing an 'easy' second serve.

Peak Serena would face second serves with 'kill me' written on them.

Plus, as Richard Williams said so eloquently of Serena, "She's meaner"

Re: Peak Venus would destroy Peak Serenka in straight sets

It's so hard to compare Peak Venus vs. Peak Serena because of the crazy amount of emotion involved. Serena has the mental edge, so no matter how well Venus is playing (not to mention how well Serena serves) Serena will win more often than not.

Serena would remain hopeless.

Does anyone else agree? (I know Virginie does )

Re: Peak Venus would destroy Peak Serenka in straight sets

I think the OP wish works in theory (Venus was a phenomenal athlete, with a crazy, aggressive power game), but not in practicality/reality. Cause Venus was such a head case overall/eventually (especially in relation to playing her sister--who had the better second serve, all court game, patience and mind), it would always show up during a match, unless she played flawlessly.

Re: Peak Venus would destroy Peak Serenka in straight sets

Venus at her peak was the mentally tough QUEEN. She saved eight match points against Capriati in Miami, came back from down a set and 4-0 and another break in the third to win Amelia Island against Henin on CLAY. She beat Clijsters with an abdominal injury in 3. She beat Sprilea at the US Open. She beat Hingis at the US Open 2000 semifinal. With that floating lob, peak Serena would have hit it long, but Venus hit the passing shot winner with pinpoint accuracy. And Venus was on that 35 win match spreak.. She never choked at her peak. It was rare for anyone to even have a chance to beat her, let alone withstand her fightback.

Can someone point out to me matches with Venus at her peak. We have seen Serena absolutely crush top players.....where are those matches for Venus. When was Venus in scary form?

I am not conceited, I am just convinced

What a joke. Venus is probably the most overrated player of the last 10 years. Without what is these days amounts to a tiny 4 week grass court season (basically 2 weeks for most) her career would be easily trumped not only by Henin and Hingis but by the likes of Davenport, Clijsters, Sharapova, even Capriati. Peak Venus would beat peak Serena in straight sets? Really is that why the only time in her career she made 4 slam finals in a row, the only time in her career she wasnt rendered a total joke at the Australian and French Opens, she lost all 4 to Serena, winning only 1 of the 9 sets. Yeah end of.

Re: Peak Venus would destroy Peak Serenka in straight sets

I alsoo think Venus actually played Serena's serve better than most people. Heck Wimbledon '08 who else would have Serena with a 13% second serve win percentage.

And if we talking about Peaks we would have to use the mental peak as well right. Serena has came back from alot of big deficts and match points to win Grand Slams and big matches, but don't forget Venus has had her share too, infact she is probably only second to Serena in this category and she has also did something Serena has never done.........

And thats save a championship point in a Grand Slam Final with a backhand winner!!!

In fact sometimes I think I'm more impressed with the fighting spirit and comebacks of Venus because liek you all talk about her major weaknesses and flaws. To have a forehand that breaks down like hers, or a 1st serve that can get so out of rythmn and a second serve that breaks down and can hit a strand of double faults but she still has 7 sevens all of them while having those major flaws because she has had them her entire career and have the sucess she has had speaks for itself.

Also I think Peak Venus vs Peak Serena would be like Wimbledon '08 and US Open '08 those were the two's highest quality most even matches. Depending on Venus' mentality that day she can win.

I still think had Serena not acted so bratty and at least acted like she was happy for her sister winning Wimbledon in '08 like Venus has done for her som many times...those mental lapses Venus had in that US Open QF would not have happened.

That's why I said earlier, it works in theory, not in practicality, especially against her mentally stronger sister.

It's funny, I was a Serena fan first (even though Venus turned pro and had success before her sister did). I had already read up about them, and read their fathers comments from when they were a lot younger, and leaned toward Serena. A lot of Venus fans liked her, simply cause she turned pro and had some success first. Makes sense.

Of course, Serena had even more success at an early age than her sister, and won a major in 1999. A lot of Venus fans were happy, stunned, upset, flabbergasted. You name it; the full range. Some even jumped ship to Serena and pretended they never did so. It was crazy. For the diehards that remained, it got worse as Serena started beating Venus at tournaments and slams. Though the media would make a big deal about it (and both sisters supposedly hated it), you always got the feeling, Serena really didn't mind or care as long as she won. That just made it worse. But Venus was an absolutely incredible talent. Just scary! But she lacked her sisters venom, adaptability and consistency.

Whew! Those were the days though.

She would not destroy her but would win. Hits harder, runs faster and is one hell of a lot better at the net.

Thats crazy to say If you took two weeks at the end of may and beginning of June away Justine would only have 3 majors, If you took two weeks away at the end of August and September Kim would only have 1 major so please let that go about Venus and her domination of Wimbeldon. To have mediocore results all season but turn it on for two weeks (with even less playing time on a surface than other players because she doesn't play warm ups) took great confidence and self belief.

Hello Sharapova Wimbledon '05 & '07.

No one ever gave Sharapova a beating that bad playing at level as high as she was playing in '05.

Dementieva Stanford '09,

Heck Henin Aussie '03,

Safina Wimbledon '09

Venus always had some lapse of focus in her matches her entire career tho. Heck didn't she beat Henin, Seles, and Capriati all in a 24hour span at New Haven one time.

And has anyone passed her 35 match winning streak since 2000. Nope its been 12 years and no player has had a winning streak that long since. Not Kim, Not Serena, Not Henin, Not Sharapova, not Vika.

And even had she only stayed at four slams she would still be tied in Slam count with Kim and Sharapova! Venus won 4 slams in 14 months it took Kim 17 to win 3 and Maria 8 years!
