Victoria needs to win more slams next year in order for media to take her seriously.

Victoria Azarenka is a solid player she helped the WTA get back some respect when she reached number one and also won a grand slam so credit to her. Vika almost won the US Open final barely losing to Serena Williams.

She's got to build on the 2012 success that is what's going to be key if she can win more majors then she will get the media's respect.

I think the media still feel like Serena is the best despte Vika being ranked number one and there is some truth to that.

Even though Vika lost the US OPEN final, I gained more respect for her despite the loss because I felt she fought her heart out and really pushed Serena.

Vika's lost some heartbreakers to Serena over the years and I feel she's got to start winning some of those close matches.

If Vika can do that then, I think the flood gates will open.

I still think clay is Vika's worst surface, she might win the French Open next year but I am surprised she hasn't won a big clay court title like Madrid, Rome, Stuttgart yet.

However, Victoria obviously knows this but if she wants to gain the media's respect she's got to CONTINUE winning slams. I still think that Victoria's serve is weak it isn't a weakness but it is not a weapon. I hope in the off season she works on her serve because serving at 104 to 107 miles per hour isn't good enough.

Everything else in Victoria's game is solid though she's improved her fitness, she is a solid athlete and she is definitely quick on the court. Vika also volleys well I would like to see her come to net more in 2013.

It is going to be interesting next year though, because Vika is going to have to defend all those points from 2012.

Well..obviously.
But on the flip side, if she were American, our press would slobber all over her, so it's not the fairest terms in the world.

You get taken more seriously by the media if you win more Slams? Why hasn't anyone thought of this before??

Yep about the American thing, that's ridiculous but it how things work and with the two other girls around that's not gonna be easy but she definitely deserve to be in the light. She is a good player and next year we will see if she can become a great one.

I think she has a big chance at all the majors, I would put AO as her best chance but defending her championship will either put pressure or just give her more motivation.

I'm hoping she gets at least four Grand Slams in her career, she's capable of it

Is it just me or does the OP recycle the same old thread every few months? I could have sworn I've seen this type of thread by the same poster multiple times before.

Victoria needs to win more slams if she wants to defend her #1 spot.

Victoria needs to win few times over Serena in order for media to take her serious.

Nah, she has to beat Serena in a final to get the fame. A la Maria '04 .

It's funny...Maria's hailed as the face of the tour, but to make real fame you still have to beat Serena.

Always bet on black!

I don't think Vika much cares whether the media take her seriously or not. May be her greatest strength.

This.

WIth her you really get the sense that she strives to become a better player, that is her main goal. Media recognition will come automatically, although it will never be on the same level as Sharapova for example for various season.

First off, she seems to be less interested in selling out in every possible way, she's also very secretive about her private life so there's some strict borders from the media. Second of all, she's not willing to be Americanized and the media will always take issue with where she's from.

But like it's said above, I don't think she cares. She's the master of her own domain, she doesn't need any help from the media.
