Support a ban of nuclear weapons of other countries, but they can keep their own.

Maria supports a ban of grunting of players like Vika but she can keep her grunting.

Re: Maria Sharapova Supports Grunting Ban

I just don't see how the WTA expects players to change this habit overnight. Though I think all the grunting has gotten way out of hand, players might become so focused on not setting of the grunt-o-meter, they may lose concentration on the point.

Re: Maria Sharapova Supports Grunting Ban

The WTA could say : by 2015, you can't scream louder than X decibels. Players would've two years to learn some manners.
It wouldn't be fair a silent young player to face an old, loud Azarenka.

Sharapova is the only one the WTA think they can't fight against.
Maria would still play tennis if they ban grunting, her income would drop too much if she retired.

Grunting is a a serious problem for the WTA.
Many fans don't watch women tennis anymore. Nobody started to watch because the ladies are getting loud.
Allaster should show some leadership.

no changes for active players, new regulations will start on kids/juniour level

antigrunting measures are considered by WTA a long term process, probably it will take 15 years before any point deductions will be imposed on WTa tournaments

Re: Maria Sharapova Supports Grunting Ban

I'm pretty sure this deal was made a while ago now. As such it's a pity that the current grunters have been let off the hook, but realistically this was probably the only option.

I have to admit I even feel a grudging respect for the way the WTA has handled this. Basically they seem to have said to Maria: we're prepared to let you off the hook, but you have to play ball with us. Pretty smart really, because if the most famous grunter backs the move, they will probably be able to push the changes through with a minimum of opposition.

The men grunt too, and it is loud and frequent. I hardly think your comment ("Many fans don't watch women tennis anymore. Nobody started to watch because the ladies are getting loud.") is based in fact.

Well, maybe not, but I'm not sure wether the WTA actually wants people as their audiences who started watching tennis because of grunting.

Bullshit. I've never heard a male player shriek. Nadal is one of the louder male grunters and he doesn't even approach Sharapova/Vika levels.

So women should be discriminated because their voice is not Baritone? It's very close to racism/sexism etc

What Sharapova and Vika are doing is not grunting. I didn't say that grunting/shrieking should be banned. I'm just saying that the noise on the WTA tour is louder and more prevalent than on the ATP tour. You'd have to be very biased to not notice that.
