Firstly Clijsters was retired for 2˝ of the 3 years you refer to. To suggest that somebody not playing is comparibale to a player playing and failing to win, as Serena did at 18 consecutive tournaments on red clay prior to RG 2012, is nonsense. Secondly, your claim was incorrect. Although she had only played for ˝ a year in that period, Clijsters had in fact won two titles in the 3 years prior to US Open 2009 (Hasselt 2006 & Sydney 2007).

Hence

True the scoreline definitely suggests otherwise. I will say though that 2004 Wimbledon final Serena felt all the pressure before the match even started. She was 2x defending champion and was looking to cement her place in history with Graf and Navratilova as the only women to win the tournament 3 straight years. An accomplishment Venus missed out on in 2003 to Serena. It was almost a bit of karma to Serena because Maria came out and played lights out in the 1st set. By the time Serena got her bearings together the match was over.

I wasn't aware Einstein had anything to say about taking time out from a professional tennis career to start a family but personally I would say that Clijsters a very good reason for not playing during that period.

You came up with the Clijsters claim to show "stats can be irrelevant sometimes". They can indeed when they are wrong.

overall i thought serena donated the AO by making unnecessary physical investment in the form of doubles and injuring herself......so much carelessness and arrogance......

Re: Donations - Yesterday and Today

Tsveti/Tamira playing against any opponents on any surface other than grass is a donation itself.

There is no such thing as donation in this game. You win or you lose. You play good or you play shit. You're playing for yourself (singles) because you want a better cut of the paycheck.
I truly believe every player who goes out there (in the women's game) play to win because of the hardship of their past and for their future. The only difference is confidence and skill.

If you want to donate, why bother playing and make a fool out of yourself?

Are you out of your fucking mind????? Stosur defeated Henin, Serena and Jankovic playing the best clay court tennis I've ever seen and then proceeeded to lose against Schiavone. And by the way, Federer donated all of Nadal's Slams.

Don’t squander the gold of your days listening to the tedious, trying to improve the hopeless failure, or giving away your life to the ignorant and the vulgar. These are the sickly aims, the false ideals of our age.
