We've entered in a beautiful era, no more fluky winners. Petra needs to step it up and come back at the top with Maria, Serena and Vika. But I don't see any other player winning a major except those 4 and for a very long time, women's tennis is in a great shape finally.

It made sense to all who can look beyond what major titles a player currently holds. It's about overall performance. The big 4 have been the top 4 in rankings for a few years and - I think - have dominated the SFs at majors. Not to mention Murray had already made 4 finals at majors. In contrast, Del Potro and Roddick has had a major win but not the consistency in overall. Any top player can win a major given a favorable draw and some "luck" so to look at that in isolation doesn't make sense.

I kinda like it when different players are wining each major. The only thing with the WTA is when it happens it isn't usually with players who are regularly making the Fs or at least the SFs.

Does the bolded part refer to Del Potro and Roddick? If so, you have to keep in mind that Del Potro had to beat Nadal and Federer back to back to win his title so it was neither based on luck nor on a favorable draw. When it comes to comparing their Grand Slam titles one could even argue that Murray had more of an easy draw (avoiding Federer, having to play only one of the big 4) and was lucky in the latter stages (windy conditions in the semis, a day more rest than Djokovic).

Apart from that I fully agree with you about the big 4.

Thing is, in ATP you have to beat someone in the final.
