Seasons for the ages?

After hearing similar comments about Novak's 2011 season , i wonder how many women have put together season for the ages?

I think of Graf' 1988 season (Golden Slam)....maybe Hingis's 1997: all four GS Finals, winning 3/4, only 5 losses( 3 of which were either 7/5 or 7/6 in 3rd),12 titles, 35-0 start; Serena's 2002 winning all 3 slams she played, only 4 losses(3 of which were 7/5 or 7/6 in 3rd), 8 titles??

Re: Seasons for the ages?

And that's it lol. But if you say maybe Hingis it's also maybe Serena, as Hingis did the Small Slam in 1997, reaching the 4 finals and winning 3 of 4

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Well she only played three, beat Serena Williams in all of them and won two of them. Only had four losses the entire year. Won 10 titles...

Re: Seasons for the ages?

Martina 1983-1984, winning 6 slams in a row and compiling 86-1 and 78-2 records. 29 titles in all (16 in 1983, 13 in 1984).
You could make the case for 1982 and 1986 (with 2 slams and a final, AO not played that year) as well: 90-3 in each and also 29 combined titles.

If Hingis and Serena are included then Steffi also has a bunch of other seasons that are better than theirs:
1989 - 3 slams and a final, 14 titles, 86-2 record
1993 - 3 slams and a final, 10 titles
1995-1996 - 3 slams won out of 3 in each (missed the Australian twice due to injuries), 101-6 combined record.

Seles 1991 (3 out of 3, DNP Wimbledon) and 1992 (3 slams and a final), 10 titles each.
