That's still young (especially when you're sitting down).

No wonder she's still kicking booty!

Good for her!
In one way that's so but in other way you are kinda right. There are a lot of athletes at Paraolympic Games that are "quite old" in terms of sports.

Anyway, she is amazing. Just amazing!

I know. But it's the only way I could say it.

31 is not even "old" for many regular tour players like Serena, Schiavone, Venus (with out her ailment) and Li Na now.

When you combine the wheel chair aspect; it makes sense that she could still be kicking ass. But Damn, 469 in a row is still 469 in a row.

More Power to her!!

Even the ATP isn't that predictable

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Eugenie Bouchard, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze

Is tennis at the paralympics only for people in wheelchairs? Doesn't that discriminate against people with prosthetics?

I get it. It just sounded bad like "well sure she is kicking ass at 31 since she is sitting".

If you are an amputee you can play wheelchair tennis.

Blind tennis isn't developed enough to be in the game, and deaf athletes (the deaf tennis circuit is reasonably big) don't compete in the paralympics at all.

She's amazing!

Check this interview with her in the Observer last weekend:

Quote:
The Dutch wheelchair tennis star Esther Vergeer has not lost for more than nine years but says a defeat would help the sport.

After swiftly defeating her opponent in the first match of the women's wheelchair tennis singles tournament, Esther Vergeer said wistfully: "I'm hoping that someday, somebody will beat me."

looking at the Vid i would say dropshot followed by dropshot, followed by a short crosscourt, repeat and you are the Wheelchairtennis GOAT.

Seriously, they don't seem to actually use the fact that the opponenet can't cover the court fast enough, just baseline play.

Have to watch a complete match, very interesting how one can rule all the others like that for so many years.

It may be rather difficult to get in good practice for wheelchair tennis. You need good, willing facilities and strong opposition/competition. Some places are better than others. The player also will need the time to practice and that may compound the difficulty of improving your game enough to compete with Esther Vergeer.
