nadia is one of the biggest underachievers in the women's game ever. if only her brain matched her tremendous talent.

This is the best that Petrova ever looked, she is very trim and hitting the ball well. Kind of under the radar before this.

Re: Nadia Petrova

I'd love to see Nadia win a Slam. she seems to have all the tools and all the potential. I just wonder if she's ever had the right coach - the one that knows how to flip the switch.

Re: Nadia Petrova

winning a slam? humm I don't know it's a bit much I'd say. I'd just really like it if she'd go back to the ranking that her talent and game deserve. I think that game-wise she's a consistent top 8 players and it's where she should be. not 19th or something.

Wozniak~ElTabakh ~Marino~Eugenie Bouchard...and the other Canucks!
Maria Sharapova~Anna Chakvetadze~Jelena Dokic~Laura Robson ~Sabine Lisicki

Re: Nadia Petrova

I'd be happy if she won a doubles major. Nadia gets too nervous. This has been happening her whole career. She rarely wins these kinds of matches. That rain delay didnt help, but didnt matter

Re: Nadia Petrova

She seem fitter than couple year ago and always be top10 material (with or without mental midget). But single GS title is too much to ask for her. For me re-enter to top10 and semi-final of GS could be reliable goal

Re: Nadia Petrova

I do think Petrova is 1 of, if not the best player never to have reached a slam final. When she's on she can beat the very best players, but obviously her mental issues get in the way most of the time. It would be cool to see her win a slam, but obviously that's never gonna happen

Re: Nadia Petrova

She has the game honestly. Not inferior to Kuznetsova or Dementieva. But she's not tough mentally, more like Daniella. They couldn't finish off resilient top players who had a bad day.

Re: Nadia Petrova

Why? Hard to like her, choking as much as she does, never having even gotten close to a slam with her talent, being a plain bitch sometimes for indiscernible reasons, wearing some of the worst dresses of modern female history?

And let's talk WTA business... Nadia Petrova winning a slam helps the sport in what way?

If it can't be some 18 year old that would look good in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition and inspire the advertising companies to swoon OR some multi-Champion WTA Covergirl like Serena or Maria, then the populace won't take notice.

Women's tennis has righted itself recently, and it doesn't hurt that the rankings are getting to more accurately reflect the true tennis hierarchy. But, damn, if it couldn't use two or three 17-21 year olds that really looked like they were ready to Hingis/Venus/Serena/Capriati/Clijsters/Sharapova it up.

Sports need stars to appeal to the casual fans (which probably don't come here, but every fan who does come here should understand their importance no matter how odious). I personally usually root for the underdog, but I also know that (these days) having marginal players like Petrova or Wozniacki or Radwanska win slams just makes women's tennis less viable.
