Which player remaining in draw has best chance to beat Serena

Of all those left in the draw who has the best chance to beat Serena. I feel almost stupid including Maria on the poll but I might as well use up all the poll options just for the heck of it (although if I am completely honest I think her chances of beating Serena are about the 13th most of the other 15 left, only above 2 of the relative nobodies).

I am not sure who it is. I picked Petra for lack of a better option though, not that I think Petra has the 2nd best chance of winning the U.S Open which I dont, just the best chance in a hypothetical head to head with Serena.

I'd say Stosur and her topspin

Re: Which player remaining in draw has best chance to beat Serena

from what i've seen of serenka for the past few slams, she is more vulnerable to upsets/losing to players ranked lower than her than losing to her fellow top players. she seems to raise her level of play according to her opponent quite often, so i'll go with a player not named sharapova/azarenka/radwanska

Seriously? Just let her take it one match at a time. She could lose any match that she plays. Nothing is a given.

The un-likeliest. I mean, we thought she was invincible last year. We thought Vika's streak was unbeatable earlier this year. They both eventually lost to someone.

It could be anybody. Personally, I'm hoping Sam or Masha but it could be Bartoli or Kvitova or even Kerber [/Chakvetadze].

Maria Sharapova, Sam Stosur, Jamie Hampton, Sofia Arvidsson, Mona Barthel, Julia Georges, Ana Ivanovic, Tsvetana Pironkova, Camila Giorgi.

Kerber, but I seriously doubt she is losing in this slam. Her draw is a complete cakewalk (as is Sharapova's)

It won't be someone who can't serve because Serena's returning is ridiculous.

Re: Which player remaining in draw has best chance to beat Serena

Pironkova's style and her success vs. the WS ranks her pretty high, but I'm going with Stosur.

I still don't see Kerber as an elite player, just a very consistent one this season. Remarkably, Kvitova's season has told a similar tale (unlike last year, when it was trendy to deem an in-form Petra the GOAT and the only one who could beat Serena). Kvitty's been out of form and fat all season and still managed to maintain her top-5 ranking.

Success vs. the Williams sisters? I think you mean success against Venus. Serena defeated Pironkova in her first match back after a year off tour, on Pironkova's best surface. So no.

maria's got votes? oh boy.

love her but 2004 was a loooong time ago.

btw, only serena's beating serena in this tournament. since that was not an option, i picked the distant second...kvittygoat with a generous 1% chance. first she has to get through maria AND vika just to even put herself in that position. pretty much hopeless all around.
